I have a PVS 14 night vision monocular that use with an ir laser, bump helmet, and ir light. I also have a Bering super hogster.
For hunting, there is absolutely no compassion. Thermal is amazing. I love my super Hogster but if you can afford it, BERING is having a super yoter with a built in laser rangefinder releasing this summer. It is 640 and the way I would go.
I have used both hunting around home for coyotes and I have used both in Texas hog Hunts. Again, thermal absolutely is better.
This is through my night vision out of my bedroom window. You could see how easily a coyote or a pig would blend in with the shadows.
This is some deer across the streetwith my super hogster thermal
Here are some different deer with the thermal switch to Black Hot
Here are some deer at 780 yards with my thermal Even with the 3X magnifier screwed on the front of night vision I would never be able to see them. With the thermal, no problem
Since you asked about the hog hunting, these pigs were with thermal. The guy on the right is my brother. He has the Burris BTS 50. I prefer my thermal since it has on board video. This picture is from a hunt last February in Florida.
