I grew up in deepest, darkest Appalachia. On average we only got 3 channels at best. Two from one direction, and one from another. They required a trip outside, in the dark, to twist the antenna.
Anytime LW was on was the longest, miserable fahqin' hour, a kid could spend. Same for fahqin' Hee Haw. 😡
' Luckily, my parents hated the Lawrence Welk show but my paternal grandparents loved it. (I was born in '54.) As a young kid, when I spent some time with them, they'd always watch the show. Fortunately, I was free to leave the room and go play.

About ten seconds of it many times. The time it took to realize that it was on and walk over to the TV and change the channel. OMG ! Remember when you had to walk to the TV and turn the dial ?

When I was a kid, we only had two channels and we never missed the Lawrence Welk show. I didn't like it that much, but I lusted after that youngest Lennon Sister . What was her name? Janet?? I can't remember what was on the other channel !
Yea, but not by choice. As a kid not much say in what we watched. In my parents defense, not a lot of options with the T.V. Antenna of the day. Pretty much got two local channels plus PBS.

Lol!!! My dad invented what was probably the 1st channel changer back in the day I think..
When the dail TV was around and 2 5 7 and 12 were the only channels. NBC 2 CBS 5 ABC 7 PBS 12
10 FT long 1 inch wood dowel with a beveled slot via a file job in the end to slip over the dail to change channels from his chair. Did a mod to it after the 1st day, the handle end was slipping in his hand and he was not getting the twisting on the dail effect very good with it He wrapped a bunch of tape around it. Workable handle... Problem solved ... 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ ingenuity at work......
As a kid my maternal grandparents were big fans. The paternal grandparents not so much. My mom put it on occasionally because prior to 1962 we only had two stations so there wasn't much choice. I was amazed when we actually got a third local TV station because of what I thought was a huge amount of options.
