Came across this article today. U.S. raises 'grave concerns' over Mexico's anti-GMO farm policies https://financialpost.com/pmn/busin...erns-over-mexicos-anti-gmo-farm-policies"Mexico’s proposed approach, which is not grounded in science, still threatens to disrupt billions of dollars in bilateral agricultural trade, cause serious economic harm to U.S. farmers and Mexican livestock producers, and stifle important innovations needed to help producers respond to pressing climate and food security challenges,” it added. The question is how much do we rely on GMO's to raise profitable corn crops. Is it a worthy trade off compared to traditional crops? Seems odd that Mexico would make this a hill worth fighting over.

If you work 40 hrs/wk: at 5% inflation and after 5 years, you need a 28% pay raise or to work 44 more hours (*one full extra week* per month+) to make up the difference.
This is inflation

Evidently most of the world is OK with GMOs now since most of the world got the mrna vaxxes and became GMOs themselves.

It seems to me that the anti-GMO sentiment is more a symptom of the public’s increasing level of unease with the way we produce our food. The apples we get today aren’t like the apples we got out of the garden 80 years ago. Potatoes yielding 50 tons to the acre. Feedlot beef, chickens six high in wire cages.
Of course, all that uneasiness quickly dissipates when eggs go to $4 a dozen or bacon to $7 a lb.

Being i work in ag my 2 cents , gmo corn is probably at least 1/2 if not 2/3 of the total planted in Midwest. Newest genetics for high yield better disease etc comes in gmo corn. GMO is not just roundup ready but Bt corn and rootworm corn. The Bt is an interesting one cause it is a natural event placed in corn to prevent corn borer. A natural event which works and reduces pesticide use greatly. Now the Mexico ban, yes we export a lot of corn there, but this is a world market and the amount they buy is significant. If they go elsewhere then somebody will buy this because supply and demand. We are the worlds leader in production. Problem is more for Mexico because finding that much new non gmo corn is gonna be tough
We might have to be neighbors, but I don’t have to be neighborly. John Chisum

Just about everything grown has been modified. When I was a kid in West Texas cotton stalks were taller than now. Cotton was modified for higher yield and easier stripping.

Most corn grown today is GMO in some way - either herbicide resistant or has a Bt gene built in. Nit, but most, esp field corn.
I’ve hosted Mexican government officials on occasions at field days looking at “GMO” corn.
Tons of foodstuffs today are genetically modified -ever eat sugar from a sugarbeet?

Less than $10k a year for last 25 years. Ain't anybody getting rich off of that. I've never taken a dime in Ag subsidies, but many have to, to keep going. The huge commercial farms have subsidies down pretty well.
