A neighbor of mine is upsizing and selling his Browning Medallion that looks to hold 45 long guns without the shelves and 30 with. Excellent condition, kind of a maroon color, manual lock, 900lbs +/-. Outside dimensions are 59"x39"x28".

He's asking $1500, I think he's high by a ways. What do you think?

I have a 20 year old Browning that has racks for 14 with shelves on the side. I got 17 or 18 stuffed in there so I'm a lookin' to upsize a bit myself.

Is it fire proof?

Do a search on the internet and check out new prices. I can't tell from your description which sized safe it is since the number of guns and weight don't match the mfgs specs. The Prices of the two largest are about $1800 and $2200 for this series plus shipping. So .. this price seems way to high! I would anticipate something on the order of 2/3 of the new price if in mint condition.

Yup, it is fire proof.

Not sure of the weight, he couldn't remember and was kinda guessing I think. I tried to tip it a bit and was hard pressed to get one side up off the concrete floor it's a sittin' on. The dimensions are all within a 1/4".

I would offer him $1250. I imagine he paid at least 2K + taxes for that safe, so $1500 is not out of line-especially if he will deliver it or help you move it. I bought a used Liberty and paid 50% of the retail that my other one cost- both of my safe have same specs, just different colors.

Problem with offering him $1250 is I'm sure he'll take it. smile

I've got a sweet unfired AIII Sako I'm gonna offer up with a few bucks and see how that floats.

From the Browning web site this safe fits pretty close to the dimensions of a safe that weighs 980lbs.

If you are going to hire a safe mover to bring it to your place get a quote first before you buy.
For some strange reason most of these safe movers charge more to move a safe that is already installed in a home than they do for the initial delivery and installation.

$1250 would be OK by me as I paid just under $1000 for a 28-gun, non-fire-proof Browning a number of years back. The fire-proof safes are more expensive (and weigh more) and this is a big one.

We must have the same safe, I think mine was rated for 28 without the shelves. I need shelves.

The safe now is located in the guy's garage. He lives in a Morton building that has living quarters on one end. Actually it's pretty nice. We just poured the second half of the garage floor and he has it sitting on the first. So gettin' it out of his digs and onto my trailer is no biggy. My concrete pard lives half a mile from there and has a loader. It's the gettin' it into my basement that's got me a bit concerned. Or maybe the gettin' it out someday. smile

My wife and I moved mine. Tipped it back into the truck and let it lay flat, then tipped it onto the porch. Got it up one step and into the house, onto a piano dolly and rolled it into the study.

Mine is not fireproof, however, and fireproofing adds a lot of weight.

That's why they have moving companies!

its worth its weight in gold if someone breaks in your house, you can buy one alot cheaper.there is not alot of differents in brands all of them will stop your average thief, none will stop a pro. CANNON SAFE has the best warranty. check the prices at ,dicks sporting goods and also tractor supply. with a good refrigarator cart you can move them easily.

just buy one of some kind fast, before they hit you.AND DON'T FORGET IF YOU CALL IT A HOME SAFE,IT CAN BE TAKEN OFF YOUR TAXES.just about everyone stores valuable papers in the safe ,and that means its deductable on your taxes.so get a receipt no matter what you buy.

Please show me where in the tax code it states a home safe that you store your tax docs/guns/jewelry etc. is a tax deductible item.

On some of them you can take the door off. If you can, make the move down the stairs one part at a time.
