I'd wonder if someone with QL couldn't input your H20 capacity into the program in order to give you some relevant starting points. I'd bet it isn't too far off from the Norma in overall case capacity.

I don’t have charge weights handy, but CFE 223 was the powder to used based on QL, and it worked well on paper and game for 200-225 gr bullets. QL has data on it (case capacity) listed under 35 Sambar

Case capacity should be roughly 1/2 way between 35 Whelen & 358 Norma. I've found the same powders (RL15, H4895, etc., & especially PP2000MR) that work best in the Whelen also are optimal in the Norma with lighter bullets (200 & 225). Reality isn't always logical, but I'd try these first using warm to max Whelen loads & sneaking upward carefully in 1/2 gr increments until you find pressure or run out of case space. 1 or 2 shots per charge weight is sufficient when looking for pressure. A chronograph is a very helpful tool.

As msalm said above CFE223 may be the cat'sass, but the lot I have is real peaky & not as well behaved as the very similar PP2000MR.

Ideally if i had a recipe using H4895 or H414 it would be great, i have several pounds of them two on hand.

Rifle is a Dakota action, 1:12 barrel (From Ragged Hole assume by Wilson) at 23.5".

Find “Whelen’s Northwoods Trails” @ 35cal.com
There is probably useful information there for you.
Search here too…Reloader 17 is another good powder for it.

Lt Dan…….uh, I mean Capt John,
There are at least a half dozen Fire members that have built and worked with the 358 WSM extensively. They probably have yet to see your post inquiry. I’m sure you’ll hear from them eventually.

Just wondering, 'cause I don't have a 35 Sambar/358 WSM, why you guys don't run 250 grain projectiles for elk, moose, sambar? Is it recoil with the 250's or flatter trajectory with the 200's perhaps?

Me personally I’ve ran 250grain woodliegh round nose and shot 8 or so stags with them they did shake my leupold mounts to bits so I went to Warne mounts which are miles better , I settled on the barnes 200grain as the case just seems to be the most efficient with them there fast which is what barnes need and I think the .358 diameter makes a good hole even before it opens up so good blood trails , I’d use 250grain again if going for buff but a 200grain mono is plenty for sambar the way I hunt

The recipe is defined - so with no R17 to be had we settled on H4350, maybe according to others leaving some speed on the table but 67 grains of H4350 behind a Barnes 200 TTSX is spot on. A dot you get with shoot n see target will cover 3 bullet holes, case closed for me. I don't think game will know the difference, the gun is a Montana 1999 action 23.5" McGowan Barrel ported with a 1:12 twist, topped it with a 2-8 Vortex Razor, figured an early season pig might need to experience it one of these nights if it cools down just a bit.

Thanks for the printout, appreciate the effort nice to see. We probably could of gone hotter but as we moved up things got better and better and it was like I AM GOOD! It shoots better than i can hold it.

the reason I used the Montana it was short mag ready action, simply added barrel and the seller had a nice unfinished stock which in English walnut so it turned out pretty nice all the way around
