A buddy is loading his 44 Rem Mag Ruger revolver with IMR 4227 and 240gr XTPs with standard large pistol primers.
Now he's running out of the standard primers but can find Mag. primers.
I told him he'll have to work up a load as usual from the starting load but I thought I'd ask, Any Info or experience with 4227 in a 44mag with Mag primers?
Thanks for your help!

I've always used mag primers in the 44 mag. I don't use IMR 4227 in the 44, only 2400 and H110 but I think your advise to your friend is good.

Winchester LP primers are marked for standard or magnum loads.(if you can find them). . I use std LP in a 44 mag with 2400. Your advice is sound.
Not 44 mag, but in .357, I found Mag primers were more accurate using Universal powder, but Standard SP was better with W231

No experience with 4227, but lots with 2400 in .44 magnum, .41 magnum and .357 magnum. I have never found the need for magnum primers in these cartridges with 2400. I have used magnum primers many times when I was out of standard primers, couldn’t tell the difference. With 2400 I load to maximum in all three cartridges.
H110/296 is another kettle of fish altogether - magnum primers.

Gentlemen, Thanks for your replies!
In the market today, you gotta make the most of what you can find and be adaptable.
He's not a novice reloader but he's not done much handgun loading and he knew I could ask a bigger group.
Thanks again!
