Generally tried to not have them happen but have been a few wrecks that went better than they should have gone.
The mad rushes when they think they are getting something special was something too.

Don't call em stampedes....call em "wrecks". Exactly. Doesn’t take any six shooter going off to make stupid cattle be stupider cattle. Osky

IIRC, Montana and New Mexico are in the west. That's what Jim & I know them as. And many more folks out this way.

I've always heard of them as wrecks also. But I aint a cowboy. I just play cards with some real ones. Seen a few horse wrecks. Luckily dairy cows are lazy.

Been runover in the auction barn alley by a bunch of wild azz heifers. They came off a big ranch in South Texas and I may have been the first white boy they'd ever seen.

I was called to look at some big feedlot calves with a diarrhea problem. The lot was muddy mess, I wanted to see what their manure looked like, etc.
All 100 head of the 1000-1200 lb calves were bunched in the upper lot. They nervous for a stranger to be around so I slowly eased into the pen downhill from them where an old partition fence had been.
They spooked and decided they wanted to go to the lower lot, which meant I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I was right by the old solitary corner/gate post and hugged up tight to it. No time to get to the outer fence.
They were hitting the post and brushing me on both sides. It was over in less than 10 seconds but it seemed a lot longer! Don't care to do that again.

Got caught up in one at the Chiner buffet. Apparently they put out a pan of frog legs right when I was nearby.

Anytime we moved cattle you stayed the heck out of their way. Wasn't too hard, mostly moved them by being behind. Never thought of a stampede, just cows.
Been lucky though. It was always Herefords or Sementals. Angus guys get more excitement.
BIL..."My Angus are as calm as any other cows. Im around them and grain them every day".
After he tells me of them running over a gate, down to the neighbors field. And the ensuing [bleep] show of getting them home. And me commenting of the flighty black bastards.
Oh, Was in The Dixie Stampede. The chicken and iced tea were real good.
Parents who say they have good kids..Usually don't!

Had my ass ran over and knocked around a few times, but we never had enough cows for it qualify as a full blown stampede. The worst was working other people’s cattle at demos when I was selling cattle handling equipment. The setups were usually less than ideal and the cattle were usually nuts (more than usual) due to unfamiliar surroundings/stress. Saw a few guys publicly get their lunch ate.
