Looking to have a gunsmith turn a siamese mauser action into a 50 B&M Alaskan. However it seems there are no dies and no chamber reamers anywhere. Does anyone know how one would get into this caliber? I heard possibly that the reamers are proprietary and SSK who is listed on the B&M cartridge website said they are no longer doing anything in this caliber and dont have reamers.

Any help is appreciated?

I think I understand why you'd want to do a 50 B&M over a plain-Jane 50 Alaskan - so you can use heavy cast bullets and a smaller barrel diameter (.500 vs .510)

With the die and reamer availability (and additional cost) issues, I'd be thinking .45-70 instead. Certainly not as kool though.

I dont know who Michael is but I have not heard back from BM cartridge. My smith has a workaround for reamer and dies at this point. main reason for BM vs regular 50 alaskan is cost of the lighter weight .510 bullets. Having the ability to shoot any sw 500 bullet is key to me. I already have 45-70s That's no fun. I want something different and an inexpensive siamese mauser action made itself available to me

SSK builds B&M chambered rifles. I have 6 of them. They built the 375 and 416 and 50 super short for me. The second 50 SS, 458B&M and 500B&M I got from Micheal. They should have your reamer.

Something must of happened recently between B&M and SSK. I talked to SSK and they said they no longer do BM and were unable to sell, lend or rent any reamers. And no more dies either. Hornady hasnt made 50 BM alaskan since 2014. This was as of 2 days ago

The B&M rifle series was conceived in 2005 by William V. Bruton (The B) and Michael McCourry (The M).

Any idea how to get ahold of them? I filled out the form on their webpage but no reply yet.

The B&M cartridges and rifles concept have merit as small light carry rifles with plenty of power. At claimed velocities I got 3 shots per case but loaded down a bit they are the short action big bore rifles you would think would be more popular.
The 50 SS is identical to the 500 S&W. A 400 grain hard cast over Tightgroup @ 1100 fps goes through an 8 in telephone pole.

Did you see short case life in 50 B&M Alaskan? Since its the same weight bullet and loads just slightly smaller diameter I would not expect it to have abnormal case life.

I think the 50 B&M Alaskan is a rimmed cartridge. I only have the rimless versions based off the Ultra and WSM cases.
The shorter case life was due to hot loads and nothing else. For example, the 375 B&M gets 2550 with a 300 SAF but primer pockets get loose after 3 loadings. Backed off to 2475 and it was fine. Still, excellent hunting ballistics.

ah ok that makes sense. Yes the 50 B&M is rimmed. I have a SIamese mauser action that is made for rimmed cartridges with the slanted box magazine.
