Anyone have any secrets with this rig? I have run a fair bit of trying to get this bullet to group and at a dead end so far. Its so short, I cant really chase the lands at all. I settled on seating the bullet one caliber into the case for some sort of basis. Ive tried ladder tests with 3 different powders, followed up with groups and still shooting 3 to 6 inch groups in two different proven rifles. Id really like to run this for coyotes.
Any tips would be appreciated.

What is your rifle? brand, profile ( sporter, varmint etc)

I shoot 260s in both varmint and sporter profile...it seemed to be a finicky bullet...
however in my rifles, it liked 30 grains of RL and IMR 4198...
The other load I used in it, which is often what I load the 260 with, using 100 grain Ballistic Tips or Hornady 100 SPs.

The other is 43.5 grains of IMR 4064.

Both those loads performed very well...

The lightest bullet I've been able to get good accuracy out of the 6.5 CM was the 107 grain Sierra TMK. It shot very well and killed coyotes like a bolt of lightning.

Thanks.
I have a savage model 12 target I often use for development, and a ruger american and kimber hunter for field use and picked up a barrel for one of my Tikka actions. Havent screwed that on yet, but I have it. I had previously tried the lapua scenar 100 grain with similarly poor results. Moat recently have been using the ruger for the 95 vmax and its not been pretty. I have some 4064 on hand. Ill try that next.

Sounds like you are set up for more than one , So this is more serious than just having one rifle and a leisurely shooting target scenario..

Since you are spending money on your projects, have you considered trying some other bullets out. I did say the 95 VMax is a finicky bullet.

Two bullets that are NOT finicky :

1. Speer 90 gr TnT...

2. Nosler 90 grain Varmaggeddon..

Probably unobtainable, unless you know someone, but also look at the 100 gr Sierra HP if you can find some...or the 100 grain Ballistic Tip..
Don't know what kind of volume you plan on shooting them in...

MY several 260s I have , along with a 6.5 Grendal and a couple of 6.5 x 55s,, EACH shoot those bullets quite well and are not overly picky on the powder you are using them with...

If you are having issues that bad with the 95 VMax, and can live with less velocity, look at trying 3031 if you have any of that powder, or can run some down... 3031 is not a real finicky powder... the 95 V Max is a finicky bullet tho in my experience with it...

Thank you,
That is great information. I will do some digging and see what I can come up with. I have some back orders in at Sierra, might add those 100s to the list. The TNT should be available as it doesnt get used much, but that means they probably arent making it. Nosler products have been very difficult to procure, but I will look for them as well.
I appreciate the insight.

I've gotten some recently from MIdway ( Speer 90 TnTs...)

Varmaggeddons have been on Shooters Pro Shop emails doesn't seem that long ago...but not at price I last bought them for.. much more expensive now.... I bought like 1500 or so, last time from their Pro Shop... cheap with military discount.
