My good friend called and told me the doctors say his kidneys are shot and is in need of a replacement or will need to be going on dialysis.
Now he his contemplating selling his No 1’s which include a .223 V and a NIB 303 Brit 1A.
Any idea of what he should ask for the 303? At a recent show No 1 asking prices were $1200-1600. I was thinking $1300-14 would be about right. But I really do not
know how desirable or rare this rifle is.
Any help is appreciated

Shame they made it a 1a to kick the snot outta you. 1s would have been far better.
But, since Bill died, Ruger has not been very brilliant.

NIB is always a plus, but a 303 British is probably a minus. Though not necessarily so in the right hands. I recently heard all the major ammunition companies dropped production of 303 British. Components are still available, but it's only a matter of time before that's the only option. If it were mine I'd start around $1500 and go from there. I'd also entertain offers. Ignore the lowballers.

Nah, not bad at all, even with 215s.

Up here in Canuck land they are through the roof !
Upwards to 2 grand or more is not unheard of , there were not a lot of them made. That being said, if I was going to get another .303, I would just get another total custom built after buying a donor gun.
If I were Stateside however ,to help a friend I would buy it off him for new retail price .

1500-1800 would be my best guess. Good Luck with sale.

FWIW I saw a. 7.62x39 go for over 1800. People that buy these things and paying those prices are sometimes not hunters and it is a rare one.

Love my No 1s but anyone who collects them and does not shoot them is losing money.
In the same box as Remington Classics.
Your heirs will sell them off with less gain than inflation.

I could have bought it when he did. Maybe I should have but I bought a 45/70 in the box from the same gentleman who had the 303.
I am in the selling mode myself, now if it were a 222 I would jump. Also he lives in California and Im in Idaho. I just did not have a idea of the value or rarity. I do think its a cool cartridge rifle combo though. Besides I sold all my 303 British supplies

As I was surfing around today I saw that Gordy & Sons had just received some Winchester .303 British ammo. So it's nice to see that someone is still producing new batches of it:

Edit: After posting this I found it on sale at another place I've bought ammo from: https://www.2nytactical.com/products/ammunition-winchester-repeating-arms-win303brit20-5770

I've got a pretty good supply of 303 British 150 gr InterLock SP stockpiled so I'm good for a while but I hope there's enough people out there shooting this round to keep them making it for a while. My Ruger #1 with a 6x42 Leupold is simple but I do like to deer hunt with it.
