Gonna work up another load in my
browning xbolt 7mm08. Alpha munitions brass 139 gr SST Powder to be determined
Choices Varget CFE223 H4350 Winchester Staball 6.5 IMR 4064
Which powder would you choose to start with first? The only powder you list that is in the Hornady manual is IMR4064 and Vargay. Is that the only choices you have? I'd be looking at H414, RL15 or IMR 8208 XBR myself. Learn how to find your lands and back off by .020".
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I’d try all but 223, as it’s a bit faster than the others. That said, I’ve heard of others, having success with it with light bullets meaning 120 or lighter.
I’d try these 2 first: Varget or StaBALL 6.5.
Unlike many others, I couldn’t get Big Game to shoot in my 708. It does decent in my 22–250. I don’t like how it measures in my RCBS charge master. The powder is like mini basketballs, it gets messy! I’m still trying to find someone to trade off the big game power I have left. Those tiny balls bounce around thru an electronic measure, jump out of the scale pan. I use a powder measure with those. They meter like water. DF

I just drop the schidt and load 300+ rounds per hour with just the uniflow. Ball powder is great that way. Just got done loading a few hundy 22-250 and 6.5 Creedmoor a bit ago and only used the uniflow. Simple as schidt.. Life is good.

But as I think about it, really, I just don’t want to add a powder measure for the one powder that hasn’t done anything special for me. Everything else measures fine in my dispenser.

Thanks to all the input so far. I have decided to try H4350 first but I’m only going to shoot a few to get some velocities and see where I’m at. I loaded 2 rounds with 47 gr with seating at 2.8. This is Hodgdon recommended starter load. Load is already compressed which does not bother me. I do feel this will be a pretty stout losd since I’m using alpha brass. I will report back How far off the lands is that in your rifle?? Weird that a "starter" load would be compressed. About 50 thou

Also just because it’s not listed doesn’t mean it won’t work it’s because they didnt choose to test a particular powder. All those I listed are have been tested in 7mm08 by someone. Thanks

I haven’t seen any Varget on the shelves in ten years, at least.

I haven’t seen any Varget on the shelves in ten years, at least. Powder Valley and Midway both have Varget right now. My LGS also has it. Heck, they even had a couple of pounds of RL22 and RL23 last time I was there. Powder availability is improving. None of it is cheap, though.

Initial results are promising. I was worried about not getting the velocity I wanted(2800) but it better than I wanted. Now if I can just get the accuracy I want but I’m pretty sure that’s not gonna be a problem. 7mm08 139 sst with new alpha brass and standard large rifle primers 2.8 coal 47 grain 2861 and 2818 1.5 inch vertical group
47.5 gr 2873,2861,2842 1sr 2 in same hole with 3rd shot inch right and inch low
No pressure that I can see at all
Loaded up 4 with 48 gr to try next

I had a similar set up as a lad at my folk’s home. A Uniflow doesn’t take up much room. You can get an adapter to attach it to your press, use it, then store it. DF

I've had great results with CFE223, 120gr. bullets. CFE 223 is what I used for my first load development with 120 gr Barnes in this same 7mm08. Worked good but I need to work on it some more. I just wanted to work on another load with something heavier. I still may try it. I use cfe 223 in 2 308’s with awesome results.

I don't personally care what powder he winds up using, but all those rec'd Big Game isn't doing him much of a favor since he doesn't have any, just sayin'. You’re right. I have both BG and Varget. If I didn’t have a big jug of BG, I’d be using Varget. DF

Obey lawful commands. Video interactions. Hold bad cops accountable. Problem solved.

Loaded up 4 with 48 gr to try next 24” tube? I’d say you are there with regards to velocity. I’d go 47.3 and tinker with OAL.
Now with even more aplomb
