If someone could develop a constant 1G thrust drive all of the planets would be open to us.

Some 30 years ago I wrote a quick program to calculate how long it takes to achieve light speed based on an acceleration of 16 feet per second per second, aka 1G. At that rate it would take a bit over three days to reach light speed. Physics gets weird the closer you get to that velocity, but think if we could get accelerate at 1G for a couple of days and then coast at .5 or .6C.

I haven't calculated the actual time and distance for the various planets but depending on where you're going you might only be able to get to .3 or .4C before you have to turn the ship around and decelerate.

Anyway, a trip to Mars would be a few days perhaps, the moons of Jupiter and Saturn a few more days, etc.

Then we could colonize Mars, have a whole renegade Belter society and discover strange blue matter that opens doorways to the entire Expanse. wink

Buckethead central and their wanting earth orbit dominance in the next 15 to 25 years would be more of a priority to suppress than going to Mars for some rocks and finding reserves of H2O.

The moon and its helium 3 resources being kept out of Buckethead centrals dik beaters over the next 30 to 50 yrs should be a priority before going to Mars for some rocks and finding some reserves of H2O.

Helium 3 and using the moon as a base of infrastructure/ operations to get to Mars makes more sense once technology advances.

Buckethead central needs to be addressed 1st.....

They have 0 outlook of anything outside of sole dominance of the human race to themselves...

My wife and kids get pretty PO'd at me when I say this, but I always tell them if I had the chance I would go in an instant. New experiences that very few people could say they have had, opportunities to do something really unique, and other parts of the experience interest me greatly... the chance there probably won't be a return trip would possibly be a bummer but it seems every time I go spend a couple weeks in the woods and head home, the more anxious I get as I get close to (uggh) people.... so there is that...

Go to Mars and miss out on the Fire schiett show? Ha. YGBSM

Where else can you get top notch medical advice from patriotic fire geniuses on how to cure the common cold by drinking a cold beer and other such unknown medical miracles.

If they wanted a civilian to go to walk on the moon, I would have been first in line.
But Mars? That is too long of a flight. No way.

The great exploration that I would have jumped on was over 200 years ago, a group of 30 odd men who went up the Missouri River to the Pacific and back, a 3 year trip. They stood on never before seen mountain passes and breathed the fresh air from the west winds that no white man had ever experienced before. In contrast, on Mars you're inside a mobile bubble, breathing recirculated air and carrying around your own sack of pee. You see rocks. Miles of rocks, and nothing else. There's nothing else there to see. I can see a lot more really great stuff that I've never seen before here in the US.

You could get some new experiences in Ukraine.

I’d have loved to be on the Corps of Discovery. To have sat on the edge of the valley bellow and to watch millions of buffalo migrating. They were so numerous that for as far as the eye can see for hours on end millions of bison lumbered past.

Outer space has no allure to me.
