a fellow gun head picked up a Remington 783 in 22-250 package gun NIB from somewhere recently. He sighted it in and was impressed with how accurate it is. He replaced the scope with a Leupold 3-9 rifleman and sent me a text photo with 3 shots touching at 100 yards. I have seen a few 783s over the years but never paid attention to them. Is this the norm for these guns or did my friend luck into a super accurate rifle?

Nope. Had 3 of them and they would all do that. 270 and a couple 243s.

I had a 783in 308. It was accurate.
I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally

Remington version of a Savage... ugly but works great...

Well, he decided he wants to buy another 783 in 22-250 and the place he bought it from has only had two of them in that caliber and they told him they are hard to find. He was checking on line and nobody seems to have them. I told him to go to Walmart and buy a Savage Axis

Nephew has one in 6.5 creedmoor and it does the same. Not abad rifle for the price point a big improvement over the older 770 and 710.

I also looked at the Rem Arms website and they don't list the 22-250 as an option. I am guessing it was new old stock at the gun shop.

I have a 783 in 30-06 that shoots great with factory blue box 150’s and 165 Sierra’s loaded with IMR 4350. I haven’t really tried anything else in it. Last groups I shot with it was somewhere around an inch at 200 yards. Ugly but shoots great, still better looking than a Savage Axle.

I have a couple of Axxis rifles...how well they shoot, makes me easily overlook the ugly part... Had a few G/F in college that were sorta like that... not the hottest looking gals on campus, but they sure could..........

Just found a 783 in .308 at a LGS tonight, for under $300. After reading these posts, I think I’ll buy it. It was in excellent shape.

My .243 M783 can outshoot any rifle I own or at least come close enough. I bought it used from a LGS for $200 with a cheap scope. My grandkids all come to hunt on my place and they fight over who is going to use it. It has accounted for plent of deer and big hogs.

A 783 is supposedly the clone of a Marlin X7 series.
