What do you wanna do? Travel around or stay in the Phoenix area? Wanna do much outdoors stuff or museums and such? How long you gonna be in AZ?
Wanna stay in the desert areas or go north where it’s colder and pine trees?
You mention seeing the Grand Canyon. Maybe take the train outta Williams.
Lots to see and do in AZ. Very diverse State.

Will you be staying in Williams or near the Grand Canyon? A couple day there would be nice. Cold, but nice.

I love Arizona beautiful state. I want to see Saguaro National Park one place I haven’t seen yet. Don’t forget to stop in Winslow and stand on the corner.

Dan from the frozen tundra AKA Fargo, ND
How many days do you have in play?
South east look at Tombstone
South West look at Yuma, prison is good.
West, LondonBridge
North look at Grand Canyon
North East look to Page and the Navajo reservation.
North you have the Meteor crater
Montezuma monument is a nice stop
Their are points to take in while going to all these places.
The phoenix zoo. Is ok to take in.
There are good museums to take in in the phoenix area.

Thanks in advance, your Grand Canyon trip will tie up better part of 2 days, from Chandler, easy 3-4 hours each way, plus what ever time you spend on the Rim. Weather in mid March could be warm and sunny (Chandler) to cold and snowy (south rim, Grand Canyon) Might be some spring training baseball in the Phoenix area around that time. depends on how much of the time you want to spend in the car, vs being outside in the warmish weather
...Actually Sycamore, you are sort of right....

Long weekend in chandler doesn't make the grand canyon visit logical... best you can do is a long burnout day, 8 hours driving at best, couple hours stopping to eat both ways and restroom... 10 hours on the road. For a few hours seeing. I've done it, but it's no fun really.
The zoo is nice, may still have the dinosaur exhibit then.
Touristy as hell but so is the grand canyon... take the kids to the Goldfield ghost town in Apache junction... food, exhibits, old west gunfights every hour. Same area is the superstition museum where they moved the old Apache Land Movie buildings, gunfights and some neat stuff to look at.

Spring training baseball, hotels will be premium at this time. Skip the GrandCanyon you don't have enough time. Ostrich festival may be going, Renaissance festival might still be going. Go see the Ghost town out of Apache Junction. Phx zoo is OK.

Chandler to Grand Canyon^^^according to Google. I wouldn't spend time at the zoo or baseball. Go see something Arizona-ish instead. Bruce

You are seeing a bunch of good advice here - not much one could add except personal likes. One suggestion - if you do drive from the valley up to the Grand Canyon, think about getting off I17 at 89a and taking the nice scenic drive through Sedona and up the big hill on the 2 lane, back to I17 before Flag. At least one nice lookout on the way up.
Have a great trip.

If you're driving and are going to drive through one of the Indian reservations, DO NOT SPEED. The Indian Rez police do not take well to white folks who break their speeding laws.
FWIW.

I thought meteor crater east of Flagstaff was really really cool.
The ripples in the terrain toward the north and west are amazing.
