For medium set up you should be running a 4B/5B combo far as ruger rings go. The rings will have the number on them I don’t remember where. But something is off with your front ring looks like a 3B. What’s the objective on your scope 40mm?
Then STFU. The rest of your statement is superflous bullshit with no real bearing on this discussion other than to massage your own ego. Suckin' on my titties like you wanted me.

I can slide a piece of paper between them now, good, or one more shim? You can always shim both rings. I’ve used an old feeler guage for this. A pair of tin snips and easy to do. Hasbeen Was just ready to post something like this - good advice to try before going to taller base rings (of course, I like my scope view as low as possible). You can manage the thickness of the shimming (suggest both front and back the same) and, on a .220 Swift, not likely any problem with recoil effect on the mounting.

Sliding a piece of paper between bell & barrel indicates you are good to go.

Roger try using some black electrical tape on the inside of the ring. It will give you a little more clearance and help protect the scope from ring marks. Depending on your rings you might be able to double the tape and still get a solid grip on the scope.
They say everything happens for a reason. For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

Any decent gunsmith will likely have some pre-made, blued steel shims from Brownells. I haven't messed with anyone else's guns in decades, but I still have some somewhere.... somewhere...somewhere.
If you have paper clearance, I think that is good enough. That's what - about .003?

Cut a couple shims out of a Coors Light can and shim the front ring. This works.

Roger, I have at times used thin brass shims between the action top and under Redfield bases.

Yes! Because the contact is not consistent! But, if you drive some shims between the scope bell and the barrel…..you should be fine! 😉 memtb

The bell of my scope is barely making contact with the barrel, Is this bad? Depends. Will you be shooting at the Fed-ex man with it?

I have one gun that I can slide a dollar bill between, using it for 10 years, no problem.

With ring shims, would you need to add to front ring only or both front and rear
