I was recently gifted the ''Über-bubba"
It's some form of Carcano. I know it's a 6.5x52 & the best I can tell, it does have a gain twist.
The stock has been butchered beyond recognition, so that's of no use. The barrel has been cut to 18" & I don't think i can assume anything conclusive there.
Here are all the touch marks & serial numbers I can find. I did try to do some online research to at least ascertain what year it was built (I don't want to assume 1915) but trying to figure out serial date codes has left me more confused than when i started.
I can find no serial number or markings on the bolt body. The bolt does have a straight cocking handle though, not a turned down job.
One thing I've never seen before: wouldn't like to guess whether it's an original feature or not, but I'm guessing not.
It has a false muzzle. Almost like the, presumably, aftermarket front sightramp is attached to a sleeve & the barrel has been turned to fit. It's so well done, i barely noticed it.
My intention is not restoration, it's waaaay too far gone for that, my intention is to basically re-bubba the thing into a tidy, useable little rifle. Nothing more than that.
I just hate not knowing what I'm working with.
