These are fantastic rifles! I had one in 270 win. I’ve never seen one with checkering, that looks really nice!

Had one in .280. Accurate as can be. Should not have sold it.

Sure wish I needed a 338WM. Always liked the Beretta Mato
Just because you're offended doesn't mean your right.

You can expand the uses of a 338 with some of the lighter bullets for higher velocity and flat trajectory..pretty versatile cartridge. You can reach near 3,400 fps with a 160gr TTSX.

Do these have pre-64 style simple triggers or the newer BACO style?

These were made before BACO was around. I believe these were equipped with triggers by Shilen.

I thought the 97 had a separate recoil lug, like a Rem 700?

I thought the 97 had a separate recoil lug, like a Rem 700? Yep. Winchester (and BACO) never had anything to do with the model 97. The model 97 is a round body CRF developed by Dakota. The model 76 was much closer to the model 70. They are very nice in their own right, and can be made lighter than the 76.

I can't see the lug in the pictures, hence the question.

Wow!!! That's a beauty and a good deal.
