Just curious if they made them! I've owned 308s, but a 300 with a decent trigger would be a keeper.
Id prefer a visually rough one, to refinish and use.

How much more is one in 250 over a similar one in 300?

That exact rifle in a 99DL just sold for $1K. Metal great, wood needed refinish. Walnut stocks.

If you handload it might be easier to find a .308 and download to the .300 Sav range. Brass is cheap.

Postmil 99DL's and 99F's in 250 are very uncommon - 99DL's are very, very, very uncommon. It'd go for a ton more than a 300 if anybody could find one.

Though it's much easier to find a postmil 99A in 250.

If I had an A in 250, would it trade for a 300 and shipping?
My son hunts with a 300, easier to load for two 300's than one of each. Plus, want a 300.

I have one, but didn't realize it was a rarity. (99F). Good shooter and has a much better trigger than my 300 Savage with lever safety.

If you are not stuck on a tang safety, the 99E was made in 300 Savage post-60 in 300 Savage, but not as common as one in .308 win.

Nessmuk, 99M must be a 99DL. The M stood for Monte Carlo. the early ones had a 24" barrel and hand checkering. About 1962 they went to a 22" barrel with hand checkering and in 1964 to stamped checkering.

I had a DL in 308, it was a tack driver, but my 250 has made me a sissy, so I gave it to my friend for his birthday.

If you would have offered to trade a 250A Saddle Gun a year ago, I would have sent you 2, 300's. I found one in mint condition from a member here.

Opps, the 2, 300's I would have swapped for a 250 A were pre mil, lever safety's.

Just curious, what is the going rate for a 99A .250 in good condition?

I can’t respond to current prices. The member that sold me mine bought it NIB. Didn’t like the finish and had it redone. That would lower the value. The guy that did the finish did a great job. It has a 22” barrel, so that adds a bit. He offered it to me at a good price, knowing the value was hurt by the refinish, and to keep it in the Campfire Family. Thanks, John.

FYI...

There were 8 variations of the 99-A Saddle Gun, (or 99-A version 2) when you include that some were made in two barrel lengths. From info collected on FB of 87 rifles sold on the internet 50% were .250 Sav. The demand for the 99-A in .250 remains high and the prices received have stayed high, also.
