Saw the surgeon today,
He recommended a reverse shoulder replacement. The right shoulder has had 3 arthroscopic surgeries in the last 11 years. He says the MRI shows partial tear again. He says the shoulder is junk, and recommended the RSR.
Who has had this done, what are your limitations?
I am a Registered Master Maine Guide, shoot .300 win.mag, paddle canoes all season long, run chainsaws all summer long, how about starting outboard motors with recoil?
Been a good run, is it over? What about fly fishing and all the other good stuff I am leaving out.
thanks, Joe

Is that related at all to the reverse kneeling technique?

thanks, Joe I have no idea about a reverse shoulder replacement but I do know that they can do amazing things. My Dad (late 70's) had a full replacement done. In 6 months he was 100% Probably 90% after 3. He still shoots full 3" duck loads out of a 12 Guage. Works on the farm and fly fishes. Says it feels better than it has in 25 years.

If your that active and young enough you might want to check out OVOMotion shoulder replacement. I have not done it yet but will be looking at this process next fall after hunting is done. Hope something works out, no fun.

I had reverse replacement a year ago, so last summer wasn’t up to full speed, I haven’t tried anything bigger than my .270 yet. Sold off my 338 and 45-70 so I’m not tempted to try. I kayak, going to give that a try this summer.
I throw bales of hay, just careful with the overhead.
You don’t mention your age, I’m only 50, and as my surgeon said if I screw this one up, any revision is going to be ugly.
DM if you have more specific questions

Wife just got home from having one done.
You won't be able to reach around and hitch up the back of your belt, so mobility is a bit less.
Her condition after surgery was much better than after her knee and hip work. So it is not the most traumatic surgery you can have.
Be not weary in well doing.

Between hip replacement, knee replacement and shoulder replacement, shoulder is the toughest.
I had it done 4years ago. That 300 mag will have to go. I can shoot my 30-06 with a muzzle break. I can only shoot a semi auto shotgun about 5 shots. Figure 6 months until full recovery, you will lose some Range of Motion. First six weeks you will have your arm strapped to your chest.
PT is bitch. Take pain pill before you go. You will have a nerve block first few days so there is no pain then.
I am still doing home PT four years later to keep up the strength. Depending how old you are and shape you are in regaining strength will be a factor. Still, there are muscles there that are no longer there. As you get older, regaining strength in muscles get harder. I was 75 when I had it done.
They will tell you other muscles will retrain themselves, but that is BS.
With that many shoulder surgeries, that will tell you that you are over stressing that shoulder. Do that with the plastic/ metal shoulder and you will have it popping out of joint.Screw it up and you won't be able to fix it again, nor want to.
They told me not to do anything that will cause severe shock. For an example swinging a sledge hammer against cement . That includes recoil from that 300mag. I can use a chain saw, but I tire quickly. Don't know about the paddling. Your body will tell you what you can and can't do. For me, I can't lift heavy panniers up on a pack saddle and I have to use a step to saddle my mule. The more you abuse it,the more trouble you will have.
Initially, tucking your shirt in or wiping your butt is a BIG challenge.
Good luck

If God wanted you to walk and carry things on your back, He would not have invented stirrups and pack saddles
