There were a few factory chambered Winchester model 71 rifles in 45-70 and 33 WCF.

If you or anyone you know happens to have or have access to one of these rifles I would greatly appreciate being able to talk about it.

Also, any other special order features present on a model 71 are of interest to me. Engraving, stock carving, longer or shorter than normal barrel lengths, nickel or gold trim, etc.

Please private message me!!!

Thanks

This was just talked about recently over on the WACA web site Forum!

I would go on as a guest, which you can easily do, and ask that question.

I think you'll get a few more positive responses, as there's a current survey going on, for the Win model 71's!

I'm sure that you realize these are a little hard to find,(maybe RARE), and probably pricey!

I had posted over there in the swap meet section. I’ve been involved with Bert’s survey and his recent WACA article spurred this inquiry.

I’d happily pay pricey money for one if it was made available.

Now if only one turned up…

He’s verified a handful of each. I don’t believe there have been records found to indicate the actual number made.

I wonder if you PM 'D Bert, to see if he could send your personal Contact info to some of these possible owners, and possibly get a response?

If your that serious about getting one!

Just a thought!

I thought about that, but in the end felt like I’d be overstepping. He knows I’m avidly on the hunt for one. I feel he would want to uphold some line of confidentially rapport with people who entrusted him with knowing what was in their private collections… but then again I suppose him passing my info along wouldn’t be a breach of their privacy.🤔🤔🤔

js,

No I don't think it would be, a breach of privacy, and that's truly why I suggested it that way!

You and I both agree, that it would be different if he just gave you their personal contact info!
Which, He wouldn't Do!

I understand how rare were talking here, and if your a serious buyer, as I understand you are!

I say go for it, in the respectable way that you are!

As rare as they are, their not gonna find you!

We all have the right of refusal!

JMO!!!

I heartily agree with the above. One other point…you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

I went ahead and talked to Bert. He’d already mentioned my interest to one guy and said he would do the same with others. I guess I was overly apprehensive. Bert, true to form, handled it appropriately.

The hunt continues!

I have thought it would be cool to find a 71 from Johnson Rifle Company in 450 Alaskan but that hasn’t happened.

Don,
That seems to be where I end up each time I locate one. I know of a couple scattered around the country that aren’t for sale.

js,
I see there's some current info regarding the 45-70 Cal. on the WACA site and Bert say's that he has 5 listed currently in his Survey.
It was mentioned one was listed in the Amoskeag Auction recently.

HS,

I started the thread on that rifle over on the WACA forum. I’m very confident that 71 is a fake (and wildly overpriced). But I appreciate the heads up.

Thank you
