This is C J Box's newest Joe Pickett book. The storm(s) of the title are important to the story as there are many factions at work. Who's the foreign professor who loses his mind and what could he have been up to? The Governor, a creepy guy, is somehow involved and the maybe/maybe not federal agents-- what are they up to? Is there some dirty politics involved? Naww, that couldn't be. But mining Bitcoin? How would that fit into Wyoming's geology? And some old personal animosities play into it. There are a lot of players and the book makes them come together well.
This is another fine C J Box book. I'd recommend it.

If God wanted you to walk and carry things on your back, He would not have invented stirrups and pack saddles

I like all of the Box books. This one is one of his best in my opinion.

I just finished it. I found the ending a bit contrived, but the bulk of the story was very good.

Good read. I agree with Remington 40x that the governors jet story line was a little over the top; but otherwise great job. One of Box’ best jobs of using current political reality in the story line.
