Bought the kid a taco so the run-around 1/2 ton chevy is on the block now.

It is a 2000 1/2 ton chevy, long bed, standard cab, 4wd with 154k. Truck has no rust and in really good shape for a 2000.

I did a little searching on used car prices and I don't understand what's going on. I am seeing some 97-2000 model trucks asking mid teens to approaching $20k.

Are these things becoming desirable in the old truck market?

Nope.

Yep, since it is a 4x4. It would be less if it was a 2wd.

Correct.

However when you see multiple vehicles of this vintage from multiple sellers with asking prices of roughly double what you expect the sales price to be one starts wondering.

+2 If it were even an extended cab it would bring in decent money.

If it were me, I would take the average asking price of your area (which seems high) and start at 2k less for an asking price. Worst case is you waste a few weeks of time before you get what YOU think it's worth.

Start asking $2k less than what I think it's worth?

No doubt ext cab is more desirable.

But I am confident a standard cab pickup will be useful to enough people that it will sell decently. Someone probably like us that just need a reliable 4wd outfit as a runner or work outfit.

Location may make a difference... I can say with 100% confidence the 2000 Silverado's have a strong following. Those year Chevy's, especially with extended cab bring a premium in NC and have for over a year.

I bought one that's an extended cab 1/2 ton for my son last year with 130K after looking off and on for 6 months to find one. It took that long because every time I found one listed, it was sold before I could get there to check it out. An extended cab, with 150K and no rust, good overall shape will sale fast in NC for at least $12K.

If your truck were 3/4 ton, you would be shocked at how much it would sale for here. Take a look on Auto Trader, put in zip code 27101 (one of the larger cities in NC).

No, ask 2k less than the average of your area. Unless you think it is worth what the average asking price is....

It is weird seeing the asking prices on trucks barely worth a fkn hundred dollar bill and a crack rock.

If it’s real clean, maybe $8k.

Lots of similar listed here for $5-$7k.

I sold a 2009 2500 4x4 with 150k miles for $15,500 two years ago , it sold the first day with several back up offers.
This was at the peak of the madness, imagine prices have come down, but not much

Heck send me pics! I'm looking for a truck. If it's reliable. I'm interested.

Once I get a nagging problem resolved, I will.

Had an intake leak so I had that fixed and while the intake was off, I had them replace the knock sensors. 2 sets of sensors in and they’re still throwing a code. Distributor told the shop they had heard of some bad knock sensors. But 2 sets in a row?

To your question. Truck is reliable, knock sensors not included.

Very good truck and it’s between the 2000 Chevy or 85 Toyota pickup that I need to shed.
