My boiler salesman also sells water treatment systems. I asked about a water softener and he suggested a product called the Zilmet active flow. He said he's had good luck with them and the cost is low enough that it's certainly not like he's trying to make money on me or he'd have sold me a softener. When I look at it, it looks like snake oil, but there's people saying it worked for scale reduction and water treatment. Ever seen anything like it? https://www.zilmetusa.com/activflo
I would not buy something that runs on any kind of primer given the possibility of primer shortages and even regulations. In fact, why not buy a flintlock? Really. Rocks aren't going away anytime soon.

Those gadgets are supposedly able to rearrange the molecular structure of the minerals that we call hardness in a way that keeps them from sticking to things. They do zero to actually reduce hardness in water.

Magnets have been repeatedly researched for the last 50 years and found to have no affect on calcium. They've had a measurable affect on magnet manufacturers' bottom line, though.

The school district spent big money on those years ago, some of them for 6” pipe. They didn’t do cshit. I think the AC foreman and plumber foreman were getting kickbacks for the district buying them. About 60 buildings had them back then.

Dad was a mechanical contractor for years and I can remember seeing something similar in the 1970’s or ‘80s. Don’t recall it working back then.

As a boiler mechanic, I love seeing those on a boiler feed system. It's almost a guarantee I'm fixing to make some money. Never seen one work yet.

I felt the same way. Iasked him for a quote on a water softener and he said, try this instead....so I didn't feel like he was trying to make a sale since I was already willing to spend much more.

They are good for one thing! To get the magnets out of them.

Yeah...no, there are lots of things you can remove from water and lots of things you can change about water.....but this device will only remove money from your wallet! 😉 The biggest difference between this device and a softening system is that this device is a one time purchase. If you get the softening system, you're saddled with the expense of continually buying "softening salts"!

To be fair, there's no magnets in these.
