I picked up this Ruger Hawkeye RSI 308 today. I got it off the Classifieds. I had the Big Bore 3x HD scope in the safe.

I have 20 rounds loaded with 150gr Sierra RN bullets, 47gr of Varget, and a WLR primer. I installed a trigger spring from "Ernie the gunsmith". It had a trigger job done and the spring that was in it gave a trigger pull too light for my taste. It's just a tad over 3# now.

I had one of those in 308. Mine was a tanger.

It was one of my favorite rifles.

I bet you'll love it.

Nice!

Wish I could find the same except in 6.5x55 to match my full stock #1 in 6.5x55.

Dave always wanted one... but when I came across one, the budget wasn't there..

and when the budget was there, the rifles weren't.

Congrats on a nice find... If I had ever found one, the load would have been a good old 150 grain Speer FN, pushed by about 25 grains of SR 4759...

Sort of a bolt action 30/30 equivalent... 3 x 9 Leupold on top with a German # 1 reticle...the heavy reticle one..

That would be my Oregon mountain side, of West Virginia mountain carrying rifle If I was ever back home during hunting season..

its been 30 plus years for that...

I passed on one in 250 Savage back in the early 80s.. my wife was complaining I had two many guns at the time...an 06 and a 444 Marlin and ONE handed down 30/30....

She's long gone, but if I would have bought the 250 Savage in an RSI, I'd still have that... should have bought the Ruger... smile

That’s a beauty! Better hold on to it...they don’t come around very often. I’m still kicking my azz for not buying a stainless RSI in 30-06 about 8 years ago. The price? $699, brand new at a dealer. Stupid me!

Good luck and have fun with it, Tom

I'd buy one in every cartridge they offered it in LH.

I'm amazed with the resolution the 3x Big Bore has. Probably the best of any scope I own. I ordered a Montana sling for it today.

Have an old tang safety in 308, it's taken a couple of Mule deer with Sierra 165gr SBTs. Picked up one of the stainless .223 models a couple of years ago when they made a run of them. Haven't done more than sight in the iron sights on that one. Need to get busy and mount a scope and work up a good varmint load for it.

I have three Ruger M77 RSI tangers, all in .308 Win. Got into every one on the cheap as their previous owners couldn't find the accuracy they wanted. First one took two years working off nd on to find a load I'd use for hunting. I was looking for 1.5" or less on a consistent basis. Finally found it using W760 and the 165 gr. Speer Hot Core. As the the two came in, I worked with that and the load worked just fine. All three rifles will do from 1.25" to 1.50" consistently. So far, the longest shot was on a Mule Deer at a lasered 250 yards. Works for me.

Guy I built a freighter canoe for uses one of these ruger international 308 carbines. He uses the factory sights, no scope. I handled it 2 years back and I was very impressed, it was trim and lightweight. He's mostly long the upper yukon:

I've been collecting the M77 RSI's since the late 80's. Fantastic little carbines. My 243 has been responsible for harvesting truckloads of deer. I have a preference to the early tang safety models just because I believe all firearm safety's should be on the tang and they have a factory adjustable trigger. The mark II models are CRF but don't care for the triggers and the same goes for the Hawkeye models. The Lipseys limited edition RSI's are quite nice since only 250 are produced each year in a different caliber and they are stainless. The larger calibers aren't as pleasant to shoot with the 18 1/2" barrel. There is quite a bit more muzzel jump and noise from that short little tube but it makes for a very handy lightweight carbine. Out of all my RSI's only one (.270) that wouldn't shoot consistant groups no matter what I tried. Best was 2 1/2" groups so it became the truck / quad gun.

I thought growing old would take longer.
