Started shopping around for a new insurance policy because my current company keeps increasing rates. What are your thoughts or personal experiences with Progressive?

Go to an independent agent that represents multiple insurance companies. Have them shop best rates for your situation AND on an annual basis have them shop prices and policies for you. Individual insurers have one interest in mind, and it’s not you.

I looked hard at Progressive. When they show you a rate, look carefully at what it covers. They'll give you a stripped down quote. By the time you add enough to get it to cover your repair costs, it'll cost more than State Farm. Liability has changed a lot the last 2 or 3 years. $25k used to be enough but now that won't even touch the price of a pickup should you hit one. Also medical costs.

Progressive lets you slide the deductible bar up or down to arrive at the premium you want to pay, but the coverages will go down drastically. Somewhere I read that you should have at least your net worth in coverage (for regular working class folks) because you can lose everything in a lawsuit over bodily injury. It might surprise you how low the liability and bodily injury requirements are for some states, like Florida. You can make a down payment, agree to auto pay plan, and get a proof of insurance card emailed for printout in short order. But no, they are not really any cheaper.

I have been with USAA for several years, they keep raising the rates, every year I check out other companies, USAA still the least costly. I have 4 vehicles, an RV and a house insured with them, I am insurance poor. eek

How much do you need? Can you cover replacing someone's 2023 Ford F350 dually diesel and huge medical bills in case you hit someone, especially if you drink and drive.
