I'm looking into a ruger hawkeye. Just curious if it's a shooter. Their website says it has a 5R barrel

Mine was. It was a 30-06 and MOA or better with several loads. I hated to let it go but I wanted to wash my hands of right handed guns

I had one for several years until a grandson claimed it. I no longer reload but that hawkeye shot factory stuff good enough to take several deer and 2 elk. Mine was wood/blue 308win. I floated the barrel and had a Smith bed the action and adjust the trigger to 3lbs. Hawkeye's are excellent hunting rifles imo. I'd buy another in 308win if I could find one at a good price. Ymmv

I had a stainless/synthetic hawkeye in 308. It shot “good enough” with 165gr Accubonds. 5 shots into an inch and a half or so. Plenty accurate enough for deer and elk out to 300 yards. But, I had it in my head that a Winchester in 30-06 would be “way better”.

I do like the Winchester better. The finish is less course, the action is smoother, and the rifle shoots great. But for the same intended purpose, it wasn’t really worth the extra money.

I just bought a Hawkeye RSI and it's accurate. The action is smoother than the MKIIs I've had.

I love the Ruger Hawkeyes! I have a M77 Hawkeye in 30-06 and it is fantastic. I have the older M77's that are all good as well

Had a Hawkeye Predator .308 until I gave it to my son. Very accurate, and that two-stage trigger is sweet, for those of us that like ‘em. A bit heavy, as befits such a beast.

The SS Hunter looks nice with its SS/walnut. The bulb at the end of the barrel doesn’t bother me.

When I bought my current SS .308, a HH was on the list. Stuff was hard to find, and I grabbed the first list item I found, an M70 EW. Pleased with that one as well, and it weighs 7-12 with a Trijicon 3-9.

I have had a couple doizen in M77, M77 MKII, M77 Hawkeye, etc. i have about 50% success rate with them being accurate as is. I have had some that were very accurate with no tinkering. I currently have an MKII stainess, synthetic 308 made in 2003 that is moa or better with everything I have tried and 3/4" or better with some stuff. All I did on it was get the trigger down to about 2.5 lbs. I also have a MKII walnut, blued 7x57 that is very finicky, but does shoot the Federal 140 grain Nosler Partition moa. I am currently working on a better load. That said, they are about my favorite non levergun hunting rifles. They are worth a roll of the dice in my opinion.
