Let me try to better explain it. I’m calling 410a the new refrigerant because as far as I know, it’s the newest refrigerant that equipment is coming from the factory with. 410a replaced 22. The 454b is the newest refrigerant compared to 410a but it’s not available right now. I was told by my distributor that the new equipment manufactured with 454b is coming out in 2025 then 410a will start to be phased out as 22 was.
And as far as the SEER ratings, I don’t know about other regions of the US because the minimum is different in different regions. I’m only familiar with my region because I don’t install air conditioning units outside my region. To add more confusion to all this chit, look up the newest SEER2. They don’t rate a/c units with SEER anymore. The SEER2 rating takes into account a higher blower static pressure with SEER, they did not. Basically, SEER2 is a more realistic rating.

Post a picture of where you need the new unit to be placed.
That might help some of the Hvac guys know a little more of your needs per this overlooked thread.

If I knew where it was going to be placed, I could probably try to look up his region and see what their efficiency standards are there.

Holy fuuuk dude... He is gonna blow a main vein in his noggin reading that. He just needs a new unit and maybe a new indoor thermostat with a quick start guide on how to put into permanent hold and go between Fan, heat, cool, emergency heat. He don't need to have a 24hr program option . Best if one of the installers gives him a class on the thermostat. He might need about 20 or 30 interations of the "quick" class Something with simple pictures in conjunction with the " quick" class will help him... Stick figure people in the pictures might help. Or maybe a Jughead Jones comic format??? 🤪🤪🥴🤣🤣

R22 STARTED to be phased out in 2010, and now 12/13 years later is pretty dried up/cost prohibitive/expensive…. There are refrigerants that can be be used in r22 systems without too much work.
410a will START to be phased out in 2025, it’s a LENGTHY process.
I don’t know which refrigerant will be the new main steam refrigerant to replace 410a in comfort cooling settings.
I wouldn’t have a problem installing a new 410a system in my house.

My house is exactly 13 months old and all 3 of my systems are 410a systems. I believe some of the same gases in 410a are the same as what’s in 454b.
