Remington Model 700 ADL in 7mm Mag. Bought it when I was 13 with $$$ earned working odd jobs in the summer. It is topped with a Leupold 3x9 scope and I have been using it for 46 years. I have no idea how many rounds have been through it or how many game animals have fell to it. I can hit what I shoot at up to 400 yards with ease. It isn't fancy but it works and if I had to drop down to just one centerfire rifle this would be the one.

Can't answer that. My collection is small (really rather insignificant), but each of them has some reason for my having it.

In the last few years I have felt like I was truly a hunter while carrying one of my JC Higgins Model 50 in 30-06. I have two, well one is a Model 51, and they are the only wood and blue rifles I have and the only ones I have owned since my teen years. I like most today I have synthetic stocks on almost all my rifles, and most are also stainless.

Wood and blue mauser with a fixed power 6x scope just says "take me hunting".

1) Ruger #1 .270 Win
Actually bought it for my wife, but she no longer handles the cold very well.

2) Anderson AM15 DIY AR15 chambered
6.8mm Rem SPC II.
My first 6.8mm is a Ruger "Ranch". After shoulder surgery, I needed even less recoil, ergo, a DIY AR.

3) the Win M12's in the safe

4) all the other firearms in the safe....and the ones scattered around the house in arms reach, etc, etc.....

My most favorite would be the one that has the most sentimental value to me, Remington 788 30-30.

My favorite hunting rifle is subject to change. It has been in the past a Kimber Montana in 325wsm or a Savage stainless 116 in 338wm or recently a Sako A7 stainless in 308. I’m really liking the 35 Whelen I’ve put together so that might move up in the stable.

1935 Peruvian Mauser, 7.65x53 (glorified .308..nothing special there)...but some old timey gunsmith whittled out a nice stock to dimensions that fit me that could not have been better if I had been fitted by an English gunmaker, with about 3/8 cast off. Very unfashionable these days, a high straight comb, only 5/8 below boreline, where my cheekbone rests on it. When I throw that gun up the crosshairs are THERE, cheek is there, butt is there. 50 year old Bausch&Lomb 6x cinches the deal...it's got a long generous window of eye relief for steep uphill or downhill, no head bobbing. The safety is a true Mauser striker blocker on the LEFT side, where your thumb belongs naturally, lightning fast, firm but pretty quiet. So for my 2 centavos, cartridge? any is ok, metal? anything that was proved in war is ok, fit? it's everything for snapshooting in timber country.

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

Aside from my beloved RIA 1911 .45 ACP, the most favorite gun (i.e. the one that can provide meals for my family, defend my territory, etc,..) would be my old classic, older model, Savage .308 with the Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40 scope. I know... we're talking *me* here laugh but let me tell you... My Savage .308 deer rifle is a M.... F.... tack driver! grin

Usually the one that I have on me or in my hand at the moment.

The ones that mean the most are my grandfather and grandmothers single shot shotguns and an old store brand single shot that my dad had. That one has an interesting family history. An uncle bought it after WWII. It had a 30 ish inch barrel. He didn't like it so he talked my dad into helping him shorten the barrel. They did so and then tapered a choke back onto the end. My uncle wanted to buy it back over the years but I couldn't let it go because of the history and it being a gun that I hunted with a lot as a kid.
