In the early 70's we had a teacher that had 1/2 a mason jar filled with mercury. Would pass it around and let you stick your hands in it!

Yes also had a teacher that had a baby food jar filled with it. He would pour some out on a desk, and let kids handle it. I rember how heavy it was.
