Give me your feedback on a brand new 629 with 5” barrel. It’s 1070$ . Always thought I wanted one. Anyone have feedback on the new ones? Thanks!

5" barreled 629s are very cool

I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

New 6.5” barrel 629 in CA are around $1,100 if you can find one.

My acquaintances that have them really like them.

Good stuff IMO. No more muzzle flip than a non underlugged 6". The 5 might be a bit harder to find holsters for, but not impossible.

A great compromise if undecided between a 4 or 6" gun. Get it & try it. Good resale if you wish to use something else.

You definitely cannot go wrong with a 5" Model 29. It is the (in my opinion and experience) the perfect length for ease of shooting and ease of packing. I have some blued barrel .44 Mags and they are my favorites.

Seeing your location, a 5" .44 Mag would be absolutely perfect for an all around outdoorsman's gun for everything you are likely to run into around there.

I got one

By far, my favorite revolver

I carry mine a lot up north. Schit ton of black bears.

Really likes PMC 240gr TCHP

Keep it loaded with Underwood 44 specials as one of the house guns. Wife likes her Glock 19 but enjoys shooting the 629 with 44 specials.

I have one and I love it. In my younger days, I only shot full power loads in my 29 and my SBH. I shoot not quite full power loads now, often about half way between 44 Special and 44 Mag levels in my 629 and SBH.

I prefer classic.

Breakshunter: Drive on over to Dillon, Montana and buy the Smith & Wesson Model 629-1, that was just put out for consignment sale, at our local gun shop.
This 629-1 does have the 8 3/8" barrel (which I much prefer over shorter lengths!) but it is in excellent+ condition and the "lock-up" and detonation timing, tightness are SUPERB!
This pistol has NOT been shot much at all.
I am contemplating buying this VERY clean 629-1 myself (even though I already have one) - the asking price is $965.00 (no sales tax in Montana!).
This pistol (according to the sales tag) comes with a shoulder holster rig.
The ONLY negative that might accompany this pistol is the grips (Pachmyer style/type) may not be the original grips.
If you are interested their phone number is 406-683-9844 - Tuesday through Saturday 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
Good luck in your quest.

P.S.: I would NOT even consider a new Smith & Wesson revolver with the "hillary hole" - IMO your monies would be much better invested with an older revolver sans the "hillary hole".
