Had the same experience with my dad.

So basically, the bank was paying out less interest by giving you a rifle for the use of your money instead of cash? Sounds about right.

Has anybody ever seen a bank that didn't screw its customers without any lube at every opportunity?

That is a VERY interesting promotion!

Local shop does this every Valentines, partners up with a local gun shop.

I recall that advertisement vividly. It would be a fantastic promotion if a Sheridan Wy bank revisited the option.

I did that in the late 80's with a credit union thinking I was going to get a new rifle and that was right before the great banking melt down. Lost my deposit and never received my rifle. That was also the time in the mid 80's when Federal land bank had floating interest rates on farm land. I had borrowed money to buy a couple farms at 2% in 1976. By 1985 the interest was 22%. Could not make the ground pay and ended selling the farm to pay off the loans. Not a happy time for me.
