Looking at jumping into a Howa Mini and know I'll hate the stock already. Those of you that have swapped stocks for one of the Stocky's factory seconds, how rough were they and were they drop in?

Yes to drop in ready, although I used the OG bottom metal on mine, and had to do just a small amount of inletting. As far as being "rough," mine wasn't all that bad. It has a few imperfections, but I don't like the color and finish, so I painted it.

Few very minor cosmetic imperfections on mine . Everything was a drop in, just plug n play. No complaints here.

Oh, and believe it or not, deer bite. Fairly hard.

Agree on the look of the carbon fiber. Pretty sure mine’s getting sprayed when the weather improves. Needs some texture too.

Agree with all of the above on my build. I added closed cell foam to the back of the stock to quiet the stock noise and add some stiffness.

I’m sure interested in this. That was the first thing I noticed was how loud hollow and squishy the butt is.

I considered using spray foam but that did not seem to have enough stiffness to help with the problem. I then decided to cut strips of a piece of closed cell foam I had laying around and jammed the strips in long ways into the stock. As I added the layers and made it tighter inside the hollow effect was abated. Did not weigh the amount of foam but it did not seem to be too much weight. With Meopta 3-9x40 scope, Burris bases, factory recoil pad, Jefferson Outdoor CZ527 detachable mag bottom metal, and paint on the stock, the overall weight with scope mounted is just over 6 lbs.

Thank you. A little bit of weight gain won’t be a big problem. Even though I cut the barrel down with the suppressor it’s still a little barrel heavy. Which I do like a little weight forward anyway just saying a little bit of weight won’t hurt. Thanks for the update.

Interesting. I need to give this a try. The walls on the butt section seem to be very thin and compressible...almost to the point that I'm not sure it would hold up to much of a side impact. I'd wondered about filling it with Great Stuff.

Hi, if you don't mind me asking, was the recoil pad hard to remover or was it simply screwed on? I tried to take mine off and I could hear cracking which I assumed was whatever part of the carbon fiber the screws were in. I didn't want to break anything so I just quit and tightened it back again. Thanks.

The recoil pad is screwed into carbon fiber pieces that are placed for the screw attachments. I would not worry about the cracking sounds as the carbon fiber is securely attached to the stock fiber.

I ordered one and couldn't tell that it was a "second". Just got done with the paint yesterday. 6.5 Grendel with Wayne York bottom metal.

ChrisAU,
Yes, sponge. You definitely have to knock down the sheen on the carbon stock. I did that with a new green Scotch Brite pad, then sponged in the colors. I've done quite a few now!

That does look really good. Sponge-bobbing stocks, in my experience, is the quickest and easiest way to change the look of a stock.
