supposedly Toyota is planning on selling a $23K truck to compete with the Maverick. the platform being presented is a 4 door compact truck that is a hybrid. According to a MotorTrend article published on June 3, 2022, Toyota has been keeping a close eye on the compact pickup truck segment in the U.S. The publication was interviewing Bob Carter, former Executive Vice President of Sales for Toyota Motor North America, and Cooper Ericksen, TMNA’s Senior Vice President of Product, Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) and Mobility Planning and Strategy, on the company’s future plans. Ericksen told the American publication that the company will consider a small and rugged body-on-frame model if there’s sufficient customer demand. Otherwise, a more city-friendly model based on the TNGA unibody platform would make better financial sense. It is a possibility that the U.S. market could get a compact truck for MY2024 or MY2025, which could be discussed at Toyota’s HQ Confidential in June 2023, as hinted by Carter to MotorTrend ------------------------------------ If its a $23K 4 door Toyota Hybrid Truck, I'll put a deposit down on it - although I'm sure with options and 4WD it will be closer to $30K. I'll keep the Tundra around for whatever, but this would be my daily driver.

It looks more like that 4 passenger small truck made by Hyundai.

yea, they are paying attention to the Santa Cruz and Maverick
Maverick had 86000 orders before production, half of them were hybrid.

Appealing to the suburban hauling rose bush and mulch crowd, hybrid will make them feel good. Wonder if it will have a 4wd option?

I'd suspect AWD, which in the hybrid is an electric motor only in the back

Maverick had 86000 orders before production, half of them were hybrid. Honda Ridgeline came out in 2006 and then was redesigned in 2016. I owned the 2006 for 10 years and 230k miles and got decent trade in value on a new 2016 Ridgeline. 2006 built the first uni-body truck in 2006 and has been the market leader in this category, IMHO. The only downside to the Honda is the price and the constant demand.

Don’t think it looks gay at all. Gay would be worrying what other people think. Like, when you say, “do I look fat in these crotchless panties?” LOL. Seriously though, 90% of us spend 95% of our time driving on pavement. And unless you’re hauling more than 5,000 pound trailer on a regular basis, there’s not much point or advantage in a full size truck that sucks down too much fuel and offers no other advantage.
I love the hidden trunk that com3s standard in all Ridgeline too. Makes carrying guns and gear much easier and more secure.
But each to his own.
