I’m wanting to build a 20VT but Rem 700 fireball actions are just laying around at every gun shop. I’ve come across a mini Mauser in 223 for a reasonable price. Anyone ever build a 20VT on a mini Mauser?
Thx. Ben

yes, and a 221 fb, 17 remington and a 6x45, not as slick as a l461 sako but when shot a lot they slick up pretty good. all were very accurate and fed well.

I have several lefties, 17 Rem, 6x222, 6x45, 25x222, 7mm TCU, 7.62x39 and one action in the white. The 6x45 and the action will become probably an ultra light 221 and a 222. Possibly a heavy barrel 222 RM. They will feed 221 with no issues. All mine are accurate. They would make a great 20VT.
Chronographs, bore scopes and pattern boards have broke a lot of hearts.

Benbo: I have not, but a friend of mine built a VERY accurate Rifle in caliber 221 Remington Fireball on a single shot Mini-Mauser action. This was years ago and the now semi-retired Riflesmith Dan Cowen of Puget Sound country did the work for him. I saw it shoot several times and offered, more than once, to buy that Mini-Mauser Rifle from him. Does anyone still make a Mini-Mauser single shot? Good luck in your venture! Hold into the wind VarmintGuy P.S.: PLEASE.... consider buying a Remington XR-100 in 204 Ruger - as opposed to the significant time and expense of putting together a custom Rifle and buying "expensive" 20 V/T dies! I just got home from my second range session with a new to me (and purported to be new by the seller last week) Remington XR-100 in 204 Ruger. With factory ammunition and a relatively low powered scope (4x12 Leupold) in poor wind conditions and cold temps I fired a 5 shot group at 100 yards measuring .578"! I own four other Remington XR-100's in 204 Ruger and ALL of them shoot exceptionally well. I strongly contend, your monies would be better invested/spent on a Remington XR-100 in 204 Ruger!

I’ve had built rifles on standard (223) Rem 700 action, Rem 700 actions that were factory fireball actions, Sako A1, and Rem XR-100. The Rem 700 was an expensive failure, would not feed, and would not eject, even after a Sako extractor was installed. The Rem700 factory fireball action worked well in 17FB, just replace the factory barrel with the fireball cartridge chambered barrel of your choice The Sako A1 worked terrific in a 20 VT and 221 FB, again just change the barrel with the fireball chambered barrel of your choice. The XR100 worked great in a 20 VT, though I had a Sako extractor installed.

Why not the Howa mini? I have one in 350 Legend on order.

I had a 17 Rem built on one. If I had it to do over I would have went MachIV/Fireball or waited until I got my Vixen's.
