Friend and family go to Africa, Outfitter says skip bringing guns no worries we have you covered, day one after a couple day of travel they are ready to go hunting, outfitter pulls out 7X57 with "Fajen" after market stock, well used, with about $1500 worth of Leopold glass on top, "says here we go" my friend who is a gun guy kinda was in "oh boy here we go" - 12 plains game animals all with one shot with what he thought were 160 grain partitions. the Mauser rides again! My friend is probably on gunbroker on the way back adding to his arsenal! LOL

I bought a Sako full stock when I live in RSA, 1984-1989, and used it on plains game from Impala to Kudu using Sako ammo
and Musgrave ammo. Never had a problem using high shoulder shots which most guides didn't like. They preferred behind the
shoulder shots. I like to see the game go down rather that run off at the shot. Just me.

Funny how that old school stuff still gets the job done. I seem to recall some guy named Bell who thought it would do ok on elephants.

W.D.M. Bell “Karamojo Bell” killed over a 1,000 elephants. Of those elephants a couple of hundred were killed with the 7 x 57mm.

Info By James Passmore

There were a number of people that tried to duplicate Bells kills with the 7 Mauser that ended up getting stomped into a bloody puddle.

I've seen a couple cases of a 7x57 Ackeley Improved and it makes my butt pucker.

In about 2 weeks I'll be working on a recipe for a 160 NP in my 7x57.

I was at the range yesterday fire forming brass for my 7x57 AI. Plan to work up some loads this week for it. Thanks Daniel

I played around with a Ruger single shot in 7x57 loaded with 175 gr Hornadys in RSA once. Everything I hit with it went flop.

But they did improve it...7x64.

I like 7x64 but, certainly would not be without my 7x57s.

I take my 7x57 on just about every hunt I go on. It's not broke and doesn't need fixing. I confess to having a wonderful custom 7x57AI but mostly just shoot standard ammo in it.
I'll be hunting free range Gemsbuck in Texas this year and will take a single shot 300 H&H as a spare rifle. My primary will be a 7X57.

According to Bell's book "Karamojo Safari", Bell killed a bit over 1,100 elephants of which 800 were taken with the .275 Rigby, AKA 7x57 Mauser.

Our forefathers did not politely protest the British. They did not vote them out of office, nor did they impeach the king, march on the capitol or ask permission for their rights. ----------------They just shot them.

That is a rifle anyone would be proud to have, congratulations!

I’m beginning to conclude that the extraordinarily consistent success of the 7x57 comes from its use of 160 to 175 grain bullets at 2600 to 2700-ish feet per second. Seems so, anyway.

One of it`s best assets is that it is so "shootable". Love mine with 162"M"`s.

My youngest son used the 7x57 in Africa in 2012. It is a Walther Model B Mauser that I gave him. He handloaded 160 gr AB's and did well with it. He was 13 years old then.
