Letting fate decide which Model 70 I'm going to keep - I've got my JOC Tribute posted in another ad.

Selling my 1946 Model 70 chambered in .270 - first year of the transitional rifles. This one is in good condition, some blueing loss at the front of the barrel but overall in great shape considering it's age. The stock does have a red recoil pad, never had the leather boot off so not sure if it's factory or not but the boot does raise the comb which makes using a scope much easier. Leupold scope shown in pics is not included.

Looking to get $1,200 + the ride. Will ship in a plano rifle case.

First I take it gets it.

Has the safety lever been modified? Shortened?

I would post pictures without the leather pad on it. Condition is everything.

That is the factory safety lever for transition rifles - the model 70's prior to this had a flag style and the ones afterwards had a lower profile safety with a round knob on the end.

I would do that for anyone who would commit to buying it if the wood underneath is good. Unfortunately I'd have to cut the leather strings at the bottom to get it off and I'd prefer not to do it to keep it usable for now.

If the stock is in good condition, you might be underpriced. If it isn't, you might be over-priced.

I prefer classic.

Sounds like general consensus is that the leather pad needs to go - I'll cut it off tonight and will post some pictures if that helps.

I agree. It is like buying a grab bag without seeing what is underneath.

Don't look she's naked!

Stock is in great shape, fitted with a Hawkins recoil pad, there is a little bit of wear on the top where the comb was raised but other than that it's very presentable.

I still can't tell from your pictures but does the "dogs ear" notch in the top of the stock still remain for the original butt plate? Maybe a better way to ask is has the stock been cut or just the pad added?

Stock has been cut - unfortunately you can't put the original buttplate back on

Thank you. That clearly answered my question.
