I have a Sig Kilo 2000 that's treated me well. However, I guess it's time has come due. The LED display is fading away at the edge and am no longer able to see part of the readings. With that said, what is recommended these days as a handheld unit to replace it? I don't want binos with the LRF built-in. I'm looking at a Kilo 3/4/5K. Don't want a repeat of the LED fading though.

They're all Chinese made, so IMO there's not much difference in any of them. Be ready for Sig CS to tell you "the 5 yr warranty is from date of manufacture, not date of purchase". A total BS position to take. Get the one with the best warranty when it comes to electronics, eventually you will need it.

My Kilo did the exact same thing as yours. When SIG wouldn't do anything about it, I called Doug at Cameraland and ordered an Athlon unit to replace it with. The Athlon has a lifetime warranty and was priced considerably less than the comparable SIG products. I've been very happy with it so far.

If SIG won't stand behind their products any better than they did on this defective rangefinder, they won't be receiving any more business from me.

ATHLON, vortex, and MAVEN have lifetime warranties. Before getting LRF binoculars I briefly had the MAVEN. Rf1 made it to the Philippines instead of China, if that matters to you, and was a great rangefinder.

My brother has a vortex. That works well. I think you can find the Ranger 1800 on sale right now or the 4000 razor looks even better.

That's a scheit stance for Sig when others are offering lifetime. I'm invested in the Sig Romeos as well. Guess there won't be more Sig electro-optics in my future.

Hate to say that is why I still have a separate range finder and alpha binos.

The range finder alone is cheaper to replace, although Leica stood by a several year old unit of mine I had issues with and send me back a much newer refurbished one.
