Considering the Ruger American Predator in .223 which comes what they call an “AR type” magazine. Looks like a 10 shot mag and it protrudes well below the trigger guard.

Does that mean that most aftermarket AR mags for a .223 will work? Would like a shorter mag, perhaps even flush with the mag well.

I don’t want to assume.... does anyone know for certain?

Thanks

Mine is the Rugur American Ranch Model. It uses any standard .556 AR-15 mags. Any mill-spec AR-15 .556 / .223 mag will work in that Ruger Model.
I use MagPul AR-15 mags in mine.

Don’t know which mags the Predator Model uses.

Check Ruger’s Website for that models Factory Specs:

I did check there. It said AR style. I didn’t find any other details. But it says the same about your rifle so I’m more confident now. Thanks

Do they make 5 round AR mags or something similar?

Cheers

I looked at a American 223, the mag looked like a 10 rd, (looks like a mag pul), but was a 5rd.
Mag pull mags will fit

All the ones I see look fairly long, probably to fit in an actual AR's mag well.

I have a RAR Predator .223 Remington. It does accept AR15 magazines.

I have an assortment of 10 rd D&H Industries, Oconomowoc WI, 1 that I installed a yellow plastic single load ramp follower, don't recall the brand but bought from Midway years ago. 20 rd NHMTG, Hartford CT magazines. These are all metal mags.

Good shooting rifle despite tool marks in bore. I did treat bore with Dyna Tech Bore coat. Likes 50 grain V_Max and 69 grain SMK.

Thanks. That’s what I thought too when I looked at the picture. Will keep looking to see if any shorter mags are available. I will check with Ruger but it’s usually quicker to ask on this site

Yes they make 5 rounders, but check the length before buying. The ASC 5's I have are identical to 10's except for the spring so there is no advantage unless you have a legal constraint. Other brands may be different.

Mine is simply a 10 round MagPul. It'll take any AR mag. The bolt hold open feature after the last shot is a PITA with a bolt rifle though.

They don't make an AR mag shorter than a 10 round because it won't work with the AR magazine chute. 5 round are 10 round bodies with long springs or internal blocking.

It was a dumb mistake by Ruger to use the AR mags in the 223 and 350.

They could have easily made a very compact 5 round magazine that would have looked and functioned well. But, they didn't.

Yes it takes any AR mag. I converted mine over to ACIS mags in order to have a longer COAL than allowed by the AR mags.

Mag Pul, ten round mags, take a five round limiter, attachment. Both Mag pul products at sportsmans.

Actually it is AICS but Ruger just calls it AI, I converted mine also and no downside, you can load as long as you want and it feeds smoother than the AR mags.

If you want a flush mount magazine, you're going to have go with the standard Ruger rotary magazine. Ruger will sell you the flush mount assembly and a magazine for it. When you call them have the serial number of your rifle handy.

I bought my grandson a Ruger Ranch .223/5.56 and didn't want to use AR mags. I also wanted a compact stock. That call to Ruger got the rotary mag, flush mount lower assembly and compact stock mailed to me.

Added info: The two calibers they wont sell a flush mount assembly and rotary mag for, are the 350 Legend and 6.5 Grendel. I wanted a 6.5G, but I can't stand having AR type mags hanging down below the rifle as they do.

The design for the AR mag model is really poor. Jammed constantly! Switched mine to a MDT XRS stock with AI polymer mags and it works much better and you can seat the bullets out to 2.5”

It's a feature not a bug.
