Most of the rifles I have chosen to hunt with over the last few years have been lever actions with walnut stocks and no safety. When I go to a bolt action it is usually a Husqvarna 30/06 or 70's Sako in 308 Winchester. With all the posts about these new super long range bolt actions with modern synthetic stocks, I thought I was in line for a new rifle. A friend said he had one for sale and it seemed to fit my needs (wants) perfectly. Short action, handy length, and chambered for one of my favorite cartridges, the 35 Remington. An added bonus is that it is very accurate for a hunting rifle. An inch at 100 yds is very easy with factory ammo and that is about as far as I will be shooting with it.

I would much prefer that over the BS you see today with 26+ inch carbon barrel, big a$$ fiberglass stock, big PRC case and a hubble on top. Short and maneuverable is where it's at in my locale.

Remington 600.
Where I hunt most of the time I won’t be able to see 100 yards in any direction. It looks a lot like the background of that picture.

Good looking. I don’t think I have seen a vent rib on a rifle before. Would love for someone to educate me a bit on those.

It was made from 1964 to 1967 or 1968. They typically shot very well, but had a look that people seemed to either love or hate. They were short, handy, accurate, and loud! I had one in 308 Winchester and with an 18 inch barrel and short action. There just wasn't much fun about shooting it. Loud and a big ball of fire! The small groups it shot didn't make up for its blast. It didn't take long for it to move along.
The 35 Remington is much more fun to shoot! Not nearly as loud, and no ball of fire.
My brother had a Remington 660 in 6.5 Remington magnum with a 20 inch barrel, no ventilated rib and a laminated stock. I just thought the 308 was loud. That 6.5 was something else to shoot. There was no question of whether or not you needed hearing protection.

Perfection! If it has four legs and hair the .35 will take it down. Cool rifle man 👍

I’m with you! I’m becoming pretty tired of all the synthetic rifles. I do own more of them than wood. But Almost daily I regret not getting more CZs when they were cheap and available
All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

Extremely Jealous!
I would love to find one of those or a Remington Model Seven KS in 35 Remington.

I have a good friend that has one in the laminated stock in 35 Remington too. It was his first deer rifle. His dad bought it for him in 1966.
