I have a short action Howa(6.5 cm) with the Hogue stock I want to replace. Looking to save some weight and slim the stock down some. It just feels bulky in my smaller hands. I love figured walnut but assuming some sort of composite due to price. Looking at $500 or less. Suggestions ??? Thank you, Neal

I put a B&C sporter style on mine, and I really like it. It's not a lot lighter weight than the factory Hogue is, but it looks and feels a 100% better. The price is $340.

Thank you, Neal Try one of the Vanguard2 stocks that show up on eBay for around $70 or new from Weatherby for around $130. GPC has NOS Smith & Wesson 1500 stocks, a synthetic style for $53 and two different walnut styles for $179 and $215. I like the B&C Weatherby style too, but I don't think that, for me, it is enough better than the V2 factory stock to warrant the difference in cost. That said, stocks are the interface between the shooter and the barreled action, so what works/fits well for one person might not work as well for another person.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I should've mentioned straight comb if possible (I like the look) . My Hogue weighs 37 oz. I don't know if I could save 8 oz. but if I could it would be great.

You may like that straight comb look, but the Weatherby Griptonite synthetic stock is a good one, especially at the price. At least keep it on the list in case nothing else catches your fancy. It’s a huge improvement over the Hogue.
Check Stocky’s for blem carbon stalkers.

Check Stocky’s for blem carbon stalkers. Stocky's shows the in stock in their Bargain Barn for $299. So they'll go over $300 but not a whole lot. You'll shave a pound off since the are in the 20-22 ounce range.

Two of the S&W stocks that GPC lists and illustrates have straight combs, the $53 synthetic and the $178 walnut. The B&C Weatherby style, the $215 S&W walnut, and Weatherby Griptonite all have monte carlo style combs. You might also find a discontinued Ramline/Champion synthetic stock with a straight comb and at least some of the earlier Howa 1500 synthetic stocks had straight combs. Mossberg and S&W also sold a Howa 1500 with a walnut stock that featured a schnabled forearm tip and straight comb that they cataloged as their Model 1700. GPC sold them for years, but I think that I might have bought the last 3 that they had a couple of years ago.

I put this B&C sporter style stock on my Howa. The color is not exactly what I'd hoped for, but the stock feels much better than a Hogue. I have also put the Weatherby stocks on Howas, and while they were a better stock, I prefer a straight comb such as this B&C.

Way to go guys, you just screwed up my Easter weekend. Now I have decisions to make, although it's a easily livable problem ! Thanks for all the great suggestions. Neal

Yup. My long action blem is 22oz and my very blemed short action is 210oz. How bad are the SA blemishes? I've only used Alpine takeoffs on my Howa rifles. That would be my first option, but the market has dried up. I've owned three and still have two.

Boyd Stocks would be pretty cost effective, but I doubt if they will be lighter...
I have several Howas with Hogue Stocks... but I happen to enjoy my Hogue stocks and my hands fit around them just fine.

I replaced a rubbery Houge with a Boyd’s and it was an anvil. The pepper laminate looked very nice with the SS however.
I like the Pendleton on my Mini a lot; better than the factory carbon.

Stockys is taking $60 off the regular price of $299 for the Howa Mini seconds CF. Might need a bit of TLC before final install, but a good deal at $239. The discount shows up when you go thru the ordering steps. It shows BO but they ship hours after the order.

Ordered one yesterday, couple hours later I got UPS shipping notification. Brown truck should be here Weds with my Stocky's mini CF second.

I'll be trying out a Stocky's CF stock soon, I just purchased the Howa Superlite in .308 Win. As soon as I get it back from the gunsmith as I had to have the scope rail modified as there was interference with the bolt.

I put a vanguard 2 stock on my howa 6 Creedmoor. I picked it up for around $80 if I recall correctly. I think I got it from numrick or cdnn.
