Any one catch the new 1911 Ruger is advertising?

https://www.ruger.com/products/sr1911Standard/specSheets/6792.html

Could make a nice backcountry pistol.

Always wondered why this hasn't been a popular configuration.

I'm going to have to find one of these to test fire.

Supposedly alloy frames aren’t as durable. If you keep it lubed and stay current on your spring replacements, it should be fine. I have a P220 that has a bunch of rounds through it and it’s fine.

I do suggest buying a gun with a ramped barrel. I like the idea of the feed ramp being steel.

Colt, Dan Wesson, Kimber, the the old Federal frames from the last century were all available in LW frames, but never as a "regular" production item. Colt only did a few runs of them, likewise with Dan Wesson, although Kimber has been making a lot of them in the past couple of years. I like the whole idea of them, and I have three lightweight Commander-sized pistols, but no full-sized guns. I just haven't gotten around to buying one when they've been available.

Well sheep dip, bought a Kimber Pro Carry in 96 with aluminum frame as a regular production gun and believe there was a full sized also at that time.

Yes, but not FULL-SIZED, the Pro Carry ain't full-sized by any margin. Didn't say they didn't make any aluminum guns before that, just that they weren't full sized lightweights.

Ruger has had a lightweight commander sized 1911 for quite awhile. With that one and now the full size they run them with a titanium ramp in the frame.

Yeah that Titanium frame ramp insert turns the alloy frame 1911 into a daily driver.

The Smith model 39 was well before that but it was 9mm. I understand that a few were tested in 45.
