I kinda lost interest in single action revolvers somewhere along the way. Even so, I always thought I should own a single six once again.

Somewhere I got the impression that Ruger built these to compete with the Heritage SA revolvers. And that thought shut me down on ever wanting to try one out. I've never even held one in my hand, even though I guess that I've seen them in the counter/case at the LGS.

I'm gonna say that they've got my attention now. Even though it may be late in the game, for me.

I wonder how long it will be before this Wrangler convertible will be available in 17HMR like the Single Six is now.

That would be a winner in my book and necessitate a purchase.

Sounds like the frame (cylinder frame) is steel, like Single Six. Think grip is zamak, like regular Wrangler. Should be a hit at sub-$300 street price. Even without the extra cylinder, the sights are a big upgrade.

The frame is machined aluminum.

If the weight, 37.7 ounces, on Ruger's site is correct, I'm not that interested. If the weight were significantly less than the weight of a single six with the same barrel length, then I'd probably have to try one. I've already got a 4-5/8" barreled single six at 32 ounces so 37.7 doesn't meet my needs.

With them expanding to adjustable sights and .22 magnum, I wonder if there is some notion of discontinuing the Single Six in favor of this much lower priced Wrangler?

Well ,I guess I stand corrected. Just looked at Ruger's spec sheet It is a Steel frame after all.

Sounds like it’s pretty much a cheap version of the Single Six, with an ugly hammer/zamak grip/paint job.

Kinda sad, but at a $300 discount (vs. current Single Six prices of $550-$600), I guess things could be worse.

Hopefully the Single Six will remain in production. But given prices, I'll bet they will sell ten of these for every Single Six.

If I didn't already own a cheap Heritage convertible for a fishing snake gun, I would jump on this.... For the price point you can't go wrong. IMO 🤔

If they bring out the 3 3/4” barrel birds head with adjustable sights I won’t be able to resist

I've never had a 5.5 single action so it's very tempting.

Bangflop! another skinning job due to .260 and proper shot placement.

My Wrangler .22 LR has a non-magnetic frame. It stands to reason, the mag version would need a steel frame. Mine weighs 30 oz.

My Flat Gate .22 Single Six weighs 33 oz. The Wrangler trigger is about as smooth as the Single Six, just a bit heavier.

Accuracy is surprising for a low cost gun. The action is very smooth and I have no issues with it.

You read a lot of stuff on the internet. I read that early Ruger .22 LR revolvers had a .223" bore and they went to .224" for the .22 Mag, combo guns and later production. Some claim that the tighter, earlier guns were more accurate. One source said they never had a .223" bore, it was .222" until they went to .224". I report, you decide.

Haven't measured bore diameters on either, but the Flat Gate is definitely a very early production Single Six. The Wrangler is almost as accurate.

Here they are, side by side. The Flat Gate has ebony grips I made and had Errol Case in MO checker/carve. I even installed the Ruger medallions. The original grips broke and replacements were very expensive. In fact, this option was less expensive, just not original.

Big difference in value, not so much in performance.

I spoke with Ruger CS and was told they are steel...

Hopefully Ruger can start making Blackhawks using this technology at a similar price point.

Yep. I’d buy one of those.

Just picked this convertible up. I like it better than the Wrangler and it wasn't much more. That said, the Wrangler is better than the Rough Rider.
