My neighbor gave me an old Weaver K8 scope. Are these good scopes? I’m thinking about putting it on my Marlin chambered in 375 Winchester. I think it will look pretty cool with that long old acope on there.

I have one. Sent it for refurbishment which cost more than it’s worth.

They track well. But the glass is not up to current quality.

Chicom glass is actually better. But a nice retro scope.

All of the El Paso Weavers are rugged scopes, but they are also old and lens coatings that facilitated light passage have improved many time over since they were made. Iron Sight INC. in Tulsa, OK, will rebuild most El Paso Weavers for under $150, but you would want to check with them first to insure that they still have pasts for your particular model.

As an aside, I'm a Winchester 275 fan and mine has a Weaver RV7 instlled with Leupold RIfleman rings.

ok....so Winchester made a Model 275 pump action in 22 WMR. And Marlin did chamber a lever in 375 Winchester. BUT I have never heard of a cartridge called 275 Winchester!

For me old scopes belong on guns they would have originally been used on. For instance, I have a mid-70s Weaver K2.5 on my very first deer rifle, a Marlin 336A. I used it to shoot my very first buck. About the time it started fogging up I moved on the "greener pastures". However, I never lost my affinity for that old 30-30, giving it the name "Little Medicine" because I swear it is a lucky talisman and always brings home the venison. So, along the way many years back I had it refurbished by the company that took over Weaver warranty work (can't remember the name of outfit at the moment).

My plan is to see if I can take my last buck with that gun before I "shuffle off this mortal coil".

A K8 on a 375 WIN seems like a mismatch.

I liked the 375 Marlin better than the Savage 99s or Winchester 84s because I prefer a pistol grip style stock. I don't have any rifles chambered in 375 WIN anymore, but I do have several boxes of the original Big Bore ammo with both 200 and 250 grain bullets. IIRC, I had a Weaver K3 on a Savage 99 BG and a 1.5-5x Simmons #1053 on the Marlin.

Both Winchester 94s (and Model 64s, 71s) & Savage 99s came in pistol grip butt stock versions.

Probably so, but it will add a cool factor to it

A k-1.5 or 2.5 would be a cool factor, save the K-8 until you find a really nice 722 in 222 Rem.

My Sav 99-375 Win wears a K-1.5

Iron Sight, Inc does good work, but it takes a very long time and is expensive.

Not everyone will spend $150 to refurb a $50 scope. Gotta really be wanting to stay vintage to go there.

K-8 FOV not the best. To me it’s best use, or was when I was a lad, varmints and targets. Never was or is a good general use hunting scope. A/O is nice to have.

Yes, fat fingers and low light, Winchester 88 not the very rare Model 84.

AFAIK none of the Winchester 94 Big Bores chambered in 307, 356, and 375 WIN were cataloged with pistol grip stocks. I know that the only Savage 99s chambered in 375 WIN were the models 99A and 99 Brush-Gun, both were only cataloged with straight grip stocks. I gave up on the 375 WIN when Hornady stopped making their 220 grain bullet for it.

I always wondered about OLD Weavers quality. Many old timers that used their guns daily had Weavers. With a little research I discovered a website called "vintagegunscopes.com". This company repairs vintage scopes. They did a write up on Weaver scopes. Very eye opening. They say they have in excess of 10,000 scopes in inventory. They said in summary that early Weaver with the B designation as some of the most brutally tough scopes built. After the B'S came C-D-E-F- etc. After the B's the quality went down with ever new letter till the quality was horrible. Weaver then realized the error of their way and again produced one of the best scopes on the market. Very interesting read.
