It's not my favourite, but sometimes I like a change too.
That goes to my original point, don't let anybody tell you what you should drink.
Drink what you enjoy.
But, experimenting is fun ! Don't think I've ever turned down a bourbon and Coke!

Have pretty much made the seasonal conversion to beer down here
See a few cool days coming this weekend so I'll pull something bourbon back out for a day or three, then back to the IPA

Not meaning to knock you and just for the sake of discussion, but to me Maker's is just slightly above well liquor, best use is in mixed drinks. Being a scotch drinker myself, I found the highest and best use of Maker's about 25 years ago when I was anchored off the Dry Tortugas and traded a bottle of MM for 5 fresh caught lobsters. No longer permitted under National Park regs.

Drink whatever bourbon like, how you like it, and most importantly with good friends and family. I do not like the snobbery that has snuck into bourbon. That should be saved for scotch, wine, and craft beers.

What do the basil Hayden’s haters prefer? Say under $100 a 1/5? Best rye I ever have had, came from downtown Washington DC. Founding Farmers Rye. Actually comes from Northern Virginia. Catoctin Creek also make a decent rye. Mitchers and Elijah Craig ryes are solid. There are other ryes that either have no rye notes or too much. New Riff from northern KY puts out some incredible ryes. Their single barrels have enough difference to keep them interesting. If you can find their single barrels, I would highly recommend trying a bottle. I didn't think we were talking about rye Basil Hayden is a rye, distilled by Jim Beam, about 20 minutes from me. Halarios..... You live in Kentucky and don't know the difference in bourbon and rye

The label states bourbon, which means the mash bill is at least 51% corn. Hence not a rye.[/quote]
It has a high rye mash bill, but you correct in that it is a bourbon and not technically a rye, but close enough that I lump it in with them. Same mash bill as Old Granddad I believe. They have been doing a lot of different barrel finishing with Basil Hayden in an attempt to pump it up. Beams Knob creek is a much better line. Unfortunately , gone are the days when you could find a 15-16 year old single barrel KC.

Also gone are the says of $50 Bookers. Hard to find now and above a 100 when you do.
A recent find was Kings County Bourbon BiB. From Brooklyn NY. Was surprisingly good.

I recently finished a bottle of 13 year old Van Winkle Family Reserve rye. The price sticker still on the bottle was $55. I certainly didn't buy it last week.

There should be an internet rule that if you are going to have your picture taken with your hands contorted in some sort of "my nuts are in a vice" signal, you need to tell everybody what it means.

I'll tell you one thing about bourbon, if you're gifted a fifth for your 19th birthday, don't try to drink it all one night.

Not into it much, but saw a $600 bottle in our local store yesterday. Must be good stuff.
