Looking for some ideas on vacation this summer. We've done the National Parks and am not looking for that this year. Nor am I looking for a trip to the beach. We've thought about making the rounds in Texas. I've also thought about something in the Dell Lakes of WI or something in the Michigan area. Other than that, I can't come up with anything. Open to suggestions.

Traverse City is nice if you’re looking for something in MI and don’t mind crowds. Decent town, but lots of water sports and fishing available. Surrounding area has a lot to do.

If you're going to visit the Michigan area you'll want the Northern Michigan and the UP areas. Check out Drummond Island as well.

This....my wife and I really had a good time. Look at Spearfish Canyon Lodge. Tons of fishing, hiking, Western history.....skip Wall Drug. Don't skip Badlands and Devil's Tower. Deadwood is pretty cool. Just don't go around Sturgis Rally time.....it's a zoo.

I just came back from a few days in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. I can say that promoters, with a clear resident approval; have completely and utterly destroyed anything there that made that area, including Gatlinburg charming. I left there in 1983 for the Navy, with a vague intent on returning and retiring there. It's a tourist cesspool now.
(Oh, consider that a "Down Vote" on that area...)

You mention Texas. What about San Antonio and then doing a drive around the Hill Country? Fredericksburg is really nice.

If you haven't been to Alaska, then the state is worth several summer vacations.

I've been here over 50 years. Alaska is worth several lifetimes. But I may be prejudiced.

Secrets of Texas on You Tube might be a helpful guide. There are a ton of interesting spots, historical and natural. We liked Big Bend, but with the illegals and all, the accommodations including boon dock camping are strictly regulated. Caprock Canyon and Palo Duro Canyon. I never tire of the old Spanish missions and the river walk. UP Michigan and Lake Superior is spectacular and unspoiled. Cleanest air this side of Tangier, Morocco. Western Wyoming is definitely nice, Devil's Tower and Black Hills.

Good stuff, keep 'em coming. We did the Black Hills last year. It was a great trip and one of my favorite places to visit. We rented a Razor SxS and rode 80 miles up through the hills. It was a great experience.
Also, wanted to amend my original question. We are looking for something within a 12 hour drive of TN.
