Two scout birds were shot down, crew of 2 on each, about 3 days apart.

Wonderful news for the family. Now they can finally get the closure that they deserve.

I used to know some of that family back in the days before we all grew up. Fun times!

Let's hope we can bring closure to the families and bring all our missing home. They all deserve that.

I was a cop in Philly. In about 1994, I received a call from a wagon crew. They told me had been sent to a small fruit store on Kensington Av to recover the remains of an American pilot shot down over North Vietnam. This was different!

It turns out that the owner of the fruit store had been a North Vietnamese Lieutenant who had fled Vietnam after the war. He settled in Philly and opened the store. Politics changed and he was able to return to visit his family in what had been N. Vietnam. While there the family told him about a crash site. He went to the site where he recovered three small bone fragments, put them in a small matchbox, and returned them to Philly, where he called 911.

I called the Pentagon unit charged with recovering the remains of US servicemen. They sent someone to recover the box and the crash site location details provided by the shop owner.

I did receive a call from the Pentagon later telling me that the remains were a Caucasian male and that they did lose an aircraft in the area where the remains were recovered. They said they would call back and provide us with the name of the pilot and details if the DNA match was confirmed.

Unfortunately, I never got the call but it was probably missed in the volume of calls normally received.
