That's what I did. Found a .44 Henry at a local gun shop for $410. Love it. Now I am looking for a compact scope or dot for it.

I’m liking the Sig Romeo 5 these days on rifles. Lot of value, and good features. I bought an old El Paso K4 for my .357, but the total package was a bit heavy, so switched to a prism sight. The K4 did let me forgo the damn hammer extension though.

I have a non cataloged 44 Mag Stainless/Nickel Hybrid synthetic with tapered sporter barrel. I had a Romeo 5 on it but installed a 2-7 Leupold. I use standard 240 grain. The darn thing is a tack driver.

I’d also ignore the advice concerning the site “GBO”, bunch of idiots over there, abusive clics, and very few know their stuff on Handi Rifles. There is one group of dummies out of the Roswell/Lincoln Co NM area that are plumb pathetic.

That’s a neat setup. I’ve had a dozen or so Handi Rifles. I wish I had kept them but I have the “sell this one to make room for and buy another one” syndrome 🙄.
I have a Henry single shot now in 357 Magnum with a beautiful piece of walnut that is trying to “fill the void” left by the Handi rifles, however seeing your 44 mag rig makes me want to look for another Handi hiding in a used gun rack somewhere.
By the way, I would like to see a picture of the muzzle on that 44 mag “Sporter” contour barrel if you get a chance, seems like it would appear to be a large bore for a .429” bore. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one unless it’s the same barrel contour used on their 45/70’s (?). Thanks for giving me another rifle to look for.

I’ll get some pics later. I’ll put it in with two diff stainless 444’s I have, one of which is a sporter tapered. The 44 mag is a regular crown, the 444’s are recessed.

The 444 Stainless Sporter I have is non cataloged too

That one is nice. I had the 223 like that but too many 223s at the time so it went down the road. I shot mine the other day. Haven't tried many different loads but it's definitely promising

Alaninga, Left 44 mag, center 444 full size, right 444 tapered. Camera really picks up powder marks. Both the SS 444’s came with laminate thumbhole stocks, I changed the center one to synthetic. Each one will put bullets in the same hole.

Thanks for comments. I would love to have the 243 or 30-30 version. The 444 in the center has the most game kills, probably upwards past 200.

There is a Romeo 5 still on the 444 laminate on the right. I will be scoping it this summer.

Do you happen to know the weight on the 44 mag?

Johnny, you sure did have some fun over at GBO didn't you? I don't remember the guy's name but he had/has a Russian wife named Niska. I think they were your #1 fans!

The tapered sporter barrels shave a lot of weight off. The synthetic stock weighs much less too.

I’m gonna buy a blued wood 308 this week, I have a local shop that still has them NIB.

Thanks, I'm going to put a sporter barrel in 445 Super Mag together. Keep is simple, 1.5-5x20 scope on it.

I just threw the 2-7x28 on there because I had a spare. I’m gonna be replacing with a 20mm Leupold.
