I just picked it up this week. I added the grips, put a little red paint on the front sight and I'm calling it good. I've never owned a. 44 SPL before. I'm really looking forward to shooting this one.

Nice!

I'm currently reading John Taffin's book of the 44. Are you going to hand load for it?

The Tyler T looks good with those grips.

Yes, I've had all my reloading gear packed up since we moved 6 years ago but will unpack it and set it up, but probably only for this cartridge. I thought long and hard about that before I bought it.

In the meantime, I ordered a couple of hundred rounds from Mackay Sagebrush to get me going. He says his run a 240gn @950fps, which is about what I'm looking for.

That'll work.

I carry my N Frame in a Elpaso Saddlery #88 Street Combat. That 624 might need something more cosmopolitan :-)

You’ll love it. I have 44 Specials in a four inch 624 and a 5 1/2 inch Bisley flattop. Fond of both of them.

Chronographs, bore scopes and pattern boards have broke a lot of hearts.

Count me as another .44 Special fan.

My 624 has a 5" barrel, cut down from 6.5" to match my 5" 27, sort of a tribute to Skeeter Skelton's favorite barrel length in S&W N-frames.

I mostly carry the 3" Rossi 720s or 4" Taurus 441s 'cause they are a bit smaller, but strong enough to handle a 950 fps 240 grain SWC. A cylinder loaded with 2x CCI snake-shot and 3x 240 grain hard cast SWCs is a pretty useful combination as long as big bears aren't on the menu.

MS is a good guy who sells a quality product for a fair price.

All my .44’s have the longer chambers and, but if I’d seen that at the lgs it would have gone home with me.

Congrats. Had a Colt SAA in 44 Special and a M29-5 in 44 Magnum. Both performed well with the same round, the Lyman 429383 round nose.

The Holster is from Bret Collier of Collier Custom Leatherworks.. He is carving one up for me now for a K frame. I love the basket weave, flower combo.

The grips are stag. I wish my camera would pick up the contrast a little better. Here are a couple of pics of them from a better camera/photographer.

I have a 624 also, one of my all time favorites. Back in 1985 Skeeter Skeleton wrote on a recall of said revolvers with steel in the cylinders being suspect. I did a check on mine which had a stamp on the back of the cylinder and a pasted sticker on the Factory box. Before shooting it suggest checking on the Serial Number range to see if it is safe.

This is a very informative post from the S&W forum on that subject. r still have mine and it will be one of the last handgun I will ever let go.

Yeah, I had already looked into it. This one has already been back and tested. It's ready to shoot.

Goodness! Pretty enough for a BBQ, capable enough to ride the river with.

That is one sweet revolver out of the Springfield Shops. Looks even nicer in the Stag stocks. Will be absolutely over the top with the basket weave and flowers if you go that route. Thinking my 19 needs a holster like that. Thanks for the link
