I have a 99F .308 made in 1966 just a shooter. But would like to dress it up a bit with better wood. One on it now has the Savage crack and it is 2" long. Someone really used it or dropped it. The bottom 4" was black I have repaired it but just looking to make it look nicer. It a very good shooter and woods gun here in Indiana.

Thanks

I have a 99E built about 1965 with the birch stock. Thought about doing the same thing. There is an unfinished stock set on eBay for $200.

I just passed along a good selection of my wood to missedbycracky, you might check with him. Otherwise, depending on the damage, many cracks can be repaired and blended by in nicely, given the time and proper amount of attention.

If you decide on the eBay stock set I would be interested in your comments. Mine has the birch stock and I have tried to dress it up by adding a walnut end cap and grip cap. Tried to stain it but it wouldn’t take stain. So I tried to darken it by using a torch. Looks like it has been in a fire. Hence I am thinking about a whole new stock set.

I got a really nice checkered, pistol grip, stock set for $125 off ebay. The barrel was barely touching the channel. Took less than 15 minutes with a small wooden block and fine sand paper To let it drop right in. This was a used stock, not a new semi inletted. I'd hold out for some earlier EG wood.
