I have a 452 in the training model. I love it and it's very accurate for my purposes. When I first got it, it would miss extracting once in a while, but not enough to be a problem. Yesterday I was shooting gophers with it using Stingers. Probably close to half of my cases failed to extract. I tried some WW ammo to see if that might be an issue. Same problem. I am at my step daughters for a few days, and don't have any of my other cz rimfires with me. The extractor looks like it is rounded off on both sides. When I get home, I will look at the other rifles, but to try and get a head start on this issue, where would be the best place to get an extractor. Called cz but they were closed. Any help would be appreciated. I didn't shoot this rifle much last year but used another cz. The problem never surfaced with that rifle..

If I remember right, the 452 chambers are tighter than say a Ruger. I don't think they care to eat the stingers (don't know about WW) as their dimensions aren't optimal for it's case size. Anybody is welcome to verify this, I'm a little hazy with my memory lately.
Anyway, keep trying some different ammo and see if you're having the same issues. I know they can be picky eaters. I've done well with the stuff from Europe, Aguila and CCI.

CZ rimfires can have a tight/match chamber. Have you cleaned the rife lately? Carbon ring? Aring in the chamber can do what you describe. Worth a look. My 452 has no issues, but does get "sticky" after several boxes if not cleaned.

Some of the US ammo (CCI was one) was tight in the CZ452 I had (tight both in and out), so I tended to stick to the European stuff (RWS, Eley, SK etc). The tighter US ammo didn't equate to better accracy, but why would it.
Whatever you said...everyone knows you are a lying jerk. That's a bold assertion. Point out where you think I lied. Well?

There's a lot of material covering the CZ452 over on rimfirecentral, I'll bet they have something covering extractor problems.

My 452 Varmint started having extractor problems after some untold number of rounds through it. Some darned where I found a post about the problem. There is a groove for the extractor that gets gummed up after a while. I’m not at home so can’t look at my rifle but I think the groove is in the action itself. Once I cleaned that extractor groove the problem went away. It was a buildup of powder residue as best I could tell. It was a simple fix. Look carefully at the extractor and groove for a buildup and clean then thoroughly. I used CLP and a toothpick.

"The extractor looks like it's rounded off on both sides."
The left one is called a holder & is rounded or actually angled with a radiused nose. The right one is the extractor, it's an acute angle with a sharp nose. I'd post a pic but running a new system here & haven't gotten my photo folder figured out yet. Your other 452's might tell the difference.

Many thanks for the replies. I am going out now to clean the rifle. It will be a couple more days before I get to shoot again. You folks might be right with the foreign ammo, about all I shoot is cci mm and stingers or something along those lines. I use this rifle on gophers and really little else. Again thanks.

If you continue to have trouble after the cleanings .there are threads on various forums both here and overseas about doing extractor tuning and replacement on the CZs. The correct terminology for the parts is the right hand hook ( on a right handed gun) is the extractor and the left handed hook is the cartridge guide As to a replacement extractor ,I believe the CZ 457 uses the same design. I may be wrong on that but since I have both guns on hand if you need it I can take my bolts apart and see if the extractors will interchange. That may help you since CZ is MUCH more likely to have current 457 parts on hand than the older 452 & 455 parts.

The clogged notch that caused my extraction problem is in the action itself. It accommodates the extractor when the bolt is closed.

Yes- it is that arced cut at the end of the barrel to create clearance for the nose of the extractor when the bolt is closed. That cut is on almost all repeating rimfire rifles. And they do clog up with crud from time to time ,which forces the extractor outward and off of the cartridge just enough to keep it from grabbing the cartridge rim at the chamber mouth.. Good point you have brought up.

This has been enough of a problem there was a guy showing a fix IIRC at Rimfire Central. I tried that but my 452 needed a new extractor to fix the extraction problems I found a saved picture,

Thanks for all the help. I cleaned the rifle and switched ammo to CCI MMHP, fired over 50 rounds today with out a hitch. The stingers were great killers and accurate, but the longer case caused trouble with this rifle. Thanks again.
